I remember the thread of when someone (Flama22?) who lived on Shirley street, or somewhere near Quinpool, was stuck in their house for days because some nutjob barricaded themselves in their house with a gun and wouldn't come out. I think that was Ninepound. I went to his house once to buy a power ...

I don't use audio out on my TV (and ya, it's usually just optical that they provide for that), but instead I plug all my devices into my receiver and then have a single HDMI cable from it to my TV. My receiver then does all the audio/video switching for me. Did your receiver come with a mic for the ...

I have pretty much the exact same receiver but an older year. I think it might be an older gen VSX-1024 though since it has the video upconverting processor. It's nice but also fairly finicky. When I turn on all my gear I think my Sony TV throws it a signal saying to use pass through audio so the re...

What speakers/receiver did you get? I have a friend who bought floor standing speakers for his 5.1 system and he didn't have the sub right away and I actually found that it was "bassy" enough without it. It didn't hit the extreme lows of a sub, but I found it fine, and that's coming from s...

Ha! But no. I actually have zero pr0n on my drives. I just happen to be into photography and shooting dumb GoPro videos is all.

I have an OCZ drive as well (Vertex 3) but so far so good. I also tried my luck by getting a Seagate disk drive a few years ago (I usually always go Western Digital), but that's been going fine as well. I also keep a backup drive in a fireproof/waterproof safe since I don't really trust any one driv...

It's bad but I'm hoping this is the year in which a game comes out that I finally can't play well enough that I can justify a new system for. There are games out now that would be unplayable on what I have but since I'm not really into FPS's it hasn't really affected me. I'm finishing up Darksiders ...

I found this article does a good job of comparing onboard vs dedicated sound processing in a subjective way that really you can only get without "hearing it in person". http://www.techspot.com/article/751-should-you-buy-a-sound-card/ I was pretty much in the same boat as this guy except th...

How do you find the IPS screen? I keep forgetting to check those out when I'm in stores.

I like the look of those monitors but I don't want black bars while gaming. :-\ I also wish you could set "zones" on them so when you maximize a window it just maximizes to it's zone only... maybe there's some software out there that does this but I'm not aware of it? If that was available...

I took Friday off to drop off my passport renewal application and then we went to the market quickly and then Halifax Shopping Center. It wasn't too crazy there and we got some deals but I was shocked to see how many school aged kids were there. Was it an in-service or something or did that many par...

I believe that; but I always hear people saying that on-board has gotten so much better over the years. I've had a sound card since... well since the Sound Blaster 16 days (early 90's), so I've never really been using on-board enough to tell. One time I did have a receiver and bookshelf speakers set...

I finally upgraded my aging Sound Blaster Audigy 1 to an Asus Xonar DX card last night. It's the first time I've had a sound card that requires an additional power source (floppy connector) like current video cards do. I have a pair of Audioengine A5+'s already so it's matched with a very capable se...

Looks interesting but I would be worried about crashes that cause data loss. :( If I wasn't working with photo and video I wouldn't be as worried though.
