2 sticks are always easier to run than 4, but it's usually only when overclocking that it becomes a huge issue.

Did you do some research on your motherboard to see if other folks have had issues running 4 sticks @ 1066?

I had three DII accounts, but two of those were for playing, and one was for a permanent mule. :)

Yeah, everybody knows the best level up ratio is 20 accounts...... :)

Do we really believe this?

Did you do a c-mos reset? Things like USB controllers disappearing sounds to me like a resource conflict. Root around in bios, there should also be a setting somewhere to reset resources... on both boards I have it's a fixed setting rather than a one-timer like "optimized settings" so you'...

I would guess if you actually managed to get into bios once, but then it white screened on you that it's an issue with the vid card.

Doesn't sound good..... :(

I'll hold off judgement until I see some #s, but I like the industrial look. IMO would make a perfect match for the HAF 932.

so here's the update, this seems odd to me: I went out and bought a 1g stick of pc5300 ram (it was late saturday, went to futureshop and they had no 1g pc6400). I can put the 1g stick into slot 1, 2g into slot 2 and I get 3g of ram - each stick reads fine in cpu-z. So its not the motherboard. But i...

Have you tried bumping the voltages in bios? If it's a staples brand rather than one of the big pre-built models, it might not be a proprietary motherboard, and may have settings for voltage.

If it does have voltage settings, try setting the memory voltage to 1.9 or 2.0.

Also keep in mind that the bios on the board is more than likely not the same as the generic one from the MSI site and that attempting to flash it will probably turn it into a brick. Pre-built manufacturers like dell/compaq/HP/Acer use the same model#s on their motherboards, but they change the bios...

Unfortunately if it's one of the big box pre-builts I doubt you'll have the settings you need in bios. The only suggestion I can make is to bump Vdimm or your northbride volts, and I doubt very much you can do that in bios. The other issue you'll have now is that your OS is tied directly to your mot...

Did you try a couple of 1G sticks to see if the problem is only with 2G sticks?

If it is with 2G sticks, and the board is supposed to support 4G you can try bumping the mem voltage &/or northbridge voltage up a bit to see if it needs a bump to work properly.

Kinda late now, but did you try installing with just two sticks of memory?

I seem to recall something a while back about Vista not playing nice during the install with 8 gig, but that once installed using 4 gig, the other 4 can be put in without any problems.

The K6 was a decent attempt that worked well for most applications. That said... it wasn't perfect in that it didn't cover all of the bases.

My first attempt at ripping MP3s was on a K6 chip, and because of some missing instruction sets it took something like 30 minutes to do a 5 minute song. :)

They be dumb for trying to kill off AM2+ as quickly (quicker?) as the socket 939. Looks like I'll be skipping this next batch and get something next June. I don't like upgrading every 6 months. I was one of the "disenfranchised" when they dropped S939 so quickly, and was quite pissed off ...
