Funny thing I see reviews from websites that show reviews like 2x120GB OCZ apex (850$+tax for 2) and the guy is flabbergasted at the speed of the setup. Too bad more sites don't use raid controllers (that are compatible) becuase that is what makes SSD's truly shine.

Updated computer BIOS to most recent (and now can use the Phenom II 955) and put DDR2 to 1067 MHz.

Those numbers sure makes me want to buy two more SSDs.

Like some on here know, I've always had a fast and current top of the line box; however, I just can't get over the quick responsiveness of the system with the two SSDs on a hardware raid card. Sure it costs a few more dollars, but dollars I think were well spent.

Few dollars? try 1000. Those are the cheapo SSD's as well hah. My setup is lacking in the io's that the vertex or the Intel drives have. But that's another 2 grand so I'll take what I can get.

Imagine if your hobby or toy was a car, a few 1000 would be nothing.

Very nice set up. Just bought Jebadiah's computer last night. Great guy, great computer, and great build. Want to trick it out with 4 SSD's in Raid. Bought 4 SSD's a while back. Saving for a controller card. I like that rig the SSD's are housed in.

And just your luck, you can order them through MB! If you do though, the housing is slightly bigger than it should be, and you'll have to force it into a 5 1/4" slot. You won't need to use screws to keep it in place though.

Steve, how do you like the performance of the SSD's? I get mixed reviews. no turning back for me now, bought and paid for. Overall do they work good? Thanks.

As long as you get a decent raid controller (at least 300$), then yer gonna love it. I don't have it as my OS drive, because my drives don't support TRIM and I'd rather be able to use them for a long time. Once I get PO'd at the 74GB raptor, I'm gonna throw a spiffy 120GB SSD drive in there, or a 150GB velo (hopefully they come out with a 15k version soon!), probably next winter. By then a new mobo/cpu/ram combo will be had as well (USB 3 and SATA3!), and maybe the prices will go down out of the stratosphere.

Even IF I were to use the SSD's on the raid card as a boot drive, the cold boot to OS time is mitigated by the fact that the raid card is low-end enterprise (and thusly meant to be on 24/7), takes about 30 seconds to boot up.

Loading games on the Raptor is a snoozefest compared to the SSD's.
