Can we get a review on the hardware your playing around with. On how sturdy it is. Capacitors, whatever? Because flashing stuff which could just be used as a frisbee at the moment in your hands isn't informative. |

Seeing how Clarke and I have the same i7 board, I'll jump in; but I've been busy with starting the modification process for WORLD CLASS overclocking. The board is ASUS' top of the line so it should have lots of quality. We see this quality in area of engineering, which you can freely read. The 16 phases of power is a good sign. Personally I like the cooling system as it is real metal with lots of thermal mass. One thing that I look for is how the heat sinks are attached to the board. On this board they use old fashion screws that keep excellent pressure on the chips. and here you see an additional little heat sink for the backside of the cpu socket. Realizing that my board will be submersed and inaccessible, I need to replace any jumpers (such as clear bios) to a switch external to the cooling compartment. Here you see many familiar looking colored wires, but they are from jumpers. You will also see 8 red and 8 black wires on soldered to the right rand side of the motherboard. These wires connect to voltage test points, for the purpose of measuring voltage from outside of the compartment. Temporarily in the mounting tray... I'll post more updates as this project progresses. |

Wow Very nice. Thanks for posting your experiences with us. Nice setup so far and your shop looks very nice from what I see. The cpu backplate is very appealing alone. I wonder how well it will do for cooling. And the 16 phase power. Love it. It's hot in its own nerdy way! Possible to get a Topic of your shop pics? |
