Studies show that you're brain needs at least 3 months on this drug to give you the chance to kick it for good.

Once you're brain is a certain way for a period of time, its hard for it to change. For example if you are depressed for a period of time, it will take a kick from a drug, for med-long term respectively for you to get out of that. On the flip side, it would be hard for you to get depressed if you are in a 'good place upstairs' for a long time. you're brain wants to stay put in a mode for long term.

I use that analogy cause if you been smoking for a long time, you brain takes time to get off the nicotine and stay off of it. Alot of people make the mistake of tossing Champix once they quit thinking they no longer need it.....then a few mo down the road they start smoking again.

Even tho I feel I could stay quit if i stop taking it. I am going the full term. I would urge anyone to try it. It will work for you too.

Well I know that, I mean why the government chose some and not others like weed, which was by far the lowest on the dependency chart I saw.

Anyways, I'm not trying to start one of those debates I just found it weird. :)

well my dad was prescribed 'weed pills' for pain management - apparently studies show its amazing with little to no side effects or drug interactions. which for him is a huge plus.

Weed isnt addictive, its habit forming, being used to having or doing something several times/day is like that for anything. But that can happen to anyone who sharpens crayons several times/day. Habit forming. The drawbacks do not outweigh the potential benefits here.

Can you imagine if the govt legalized it? I would see an increase in food sales (LOL) , less crime and fighting and the govt having alot more money to push back to the community.

think about if you had two bars, one across the st from the other. One sold booze, one sold weed. where would you find all the trouble?

Studies in the UK where booze and weed were compared in terms to the effect on driving. some amazing results were found. Booze well we all know what happens here. With weed, people slowed down , payed more attention and reaction times were only very marginally affected. ( uh oh hijackin my own thread )

Smoking is all bad to bad. no health benefits there. Champix works guys. try it.

I agree on most of those points.

I would have to say decriminalization is more effective than legalization, as I can't see the govt's hands in this a good thing for users.

As far as Champix goes. I had a Dr's appt 2 weeks ago, where I mentioned your story to my doc. He says "He must have taken Champix" and explained to me how it worked. He also said he would write the prescription for me as soon as I tell him I'm ready. Too bad cost is an issue though.

Been seriously thinking about quitting recently though, especially after being diagnosed with chronic asthma and other health conditions.

there ya go. Dr's love the drug. But when I want to really know about a drug, I ask a pharmacist. They know drugs far better than any dr any day of the week.

its 65 bucks for two weeks. My health insurance doesnt cover it, most will not. Its pricy when you are buyin 'cigrits' and the pills but, not for very long at all. Soon, by your own doing, because you want to, not cause you are trying to, you start cutting down. When that starts happening, in a few more days you couldnt be bothered to light one up. All on your own with no willpower at ALL, you throw it down.

After that point I tried to smoke, took a puff or two and ended up flicking it. didnt want it and didnt crave either. One thing I cant stress enough - Finish the 3 months. If you dont, theres a very high risk of smoking again within a yr or less. So if you start it, finish it. I am well on my way.

So far I have convinced 3 other people at work to try it. One is going to a clinic tonight to get it.

What is the cost of Champix? I'm definately interested. I just looked it up online and the bastards at sunlife don't cover any of it.

I'm actually a bit surprised by how many people here smoke. Weren't you taught that smokers are jokers??? ;)

Seriously though I was into sports growing up so there was no way I'd be smoking.

Same as me Flama. I joined the gym when i was 22 @ 160 lbs soaking wet. 2 yrs later and not missing 5 days/week, also running 10k three times per week i WAS 205 ripped and benching 225 with very little effort.

If i met myself when I smoked , i woulda kicked my own ass. The goal for me was to quit smoking and get that healthy addiction of going to the gym back. Champix is a miracle drug for smokers. You only have to walk into a day clinic and get it. No effort required to quit. You just will. When i near the end of the 3 mo cycle, I am taking a fraction of the money I would normally be spending on cigrits and joining a gym.

Dr's say that the tar and crap on you lungs WILL come off eventually. Going to a gym speeds up the process. I am going to be doing just that.

So I'm on day # 2 of Champix. So far so good, still smoking, but they tell you to smoke for 8-14 days after you take the drug. I set my quit date for Tuesday. So wait and see how I make out.

$57.95 for the starter package (2 weeks).

WAY TO GO !!

i didnt make a quit date. it jusy happened all on its own. Even tho you dont want it, u try to smoke out of habit, then you throw it down.

By the end of the starter pack - you will be close to quitting.

Skiman - you have a point. lol But in some people it can trigger serious health issues that wouldnt normally come about. Its also hard on the pocketbook. Better to be free of it tho.
