I have an ECS KN1 Sli Extreme, with a AMD 939 Venice 3500+. It's running with 3GB's of DDR400 and a PCIe 6600LE. I've had this motherboard for about 2/3 years now and just recently I while I was burning a DVD I inserted a USB Flash drive (into the front port of the case). Immediately after I did this I received a blue screen error from Windows XP. I then restarted the computer and have not been able to have the computer post since. Anybody have any ideas on what the problem might be and any potential fixes? I don't have access to another board, proc, or video card to test and eliminate the source of error. I may also be in the market for a replacement AMD 939 board, so that being said does anybody have anything they're willing to part with? (for a price ) Thanks, Emeka |

Yeah it's probably toast dude, this isn't the first case I've heard about usb drives sending power spikes to the motherboard. This actually happened to a friend of mine, and he fixed it in a rather simple and seemingly pointless way. He originally plugged in a cheap japanese thumb drive into his rear usb ports, got the blue screen, he even smelled smoke. He turned it off and it would not do nothing for the longest time. Then one day for the hell of it he plugged in the flash drive into his front ports (for whatever reason) and fired up the machine and it worked until windows load screen, then boot looped with a BSOD. He removed the usb drive and restarted again and boom...it worked. Probably not gonna work for your rig, just felt like sharing the story. Good luck on repair or investing in a new board! |

Denty I've PMed you. skiman wrote: is the usb thumb drive still plugged in?
Nope. It's actually on top of a cardboard box right now, with the PSU, Video, Proc & RAM but still can't get it to post. I think I might stay away from my cases front USB ports for a long while. (It's an Antec 300) I'll also play around with the USB ports on the back a little bit, see if that triggers any kind of rebirth. |
