Post subject:  How to connect PC (audio) to TV?

In the next couple of weeks, I plan on buying myself a nice new TV.

As such, I'm going to need a way to connect it to my computer. I see two possible options.
A) via VGA, from my video card
B) get a new video card and connect via HDMI

Obviously I want to minimize cost, which strongly points to option A. However, I have no idea how to get audio from PC -> TV. My motherboard is an Asus P5K and has "Coaxial / Optical S/PDIF out ports". I've seen the port, but I don't know what kind of cable connects to it, or what it would go into on the TV.

Any help in this regard?

Edit: I just saw the TV has a PC audio in, which is apparently just a 3.5mm jack. Can I just take a male-to-male 3.5mm audio cable and use that from line out on my sound card?

Those Samsung TV's have a VGA in and a 1/4" jack in the back for just what you want to do. Bought my rents the 52" LN model. Works great.

If your TV has no VGA port, it may have a DVI port, if that's the case buy a DVI patch cable or a vga cable and 2 DVI adapters.

Most graphics cards from the last few generations have an S-Video port so you could get a cheap S-Video cable and connect it from your graphics card to your tv.

Your graphics card usually detects the second display and in some cases asks how you want to display it. If not your graphics card should have some sort of software to enable which screen to use.

Honestly, you have a few options, but if DVI is available to you I'd vote for that, as you won't need a second monitor to use for switching displays.

"Coaxial / Optical S/PDIF out ports" - Are for audio

Very easy to run your audio to your TV. I do it with a Y adapter like this: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... Id=2453699

It runs from your audio out to your left and right RCA jacks on your tv

You can find them damn near everywhere and only like $5-$10 a pop

The TV that haveblue is referencing specifically has a 1/4" audio jack and a VGA in for the PC. I'm guessing that's one of the reasons he is getting it.

page 6 of 85 in the PDF file has the back panel inputs. On the top of that image is the VGA input and PC audio in.

It's one of the reasons. But also, that it's cheap and reasonably good.
Thanks for the help. I'll see what I can do when I actually get it. It'll be a couple weeks though :(

Nope, you were totally right. :)
It's connected via PC audio, through a Y-splitter on the speaker out jack on my computer.
For video, I had to get a DVI-to-HDMI cable, because the TV doesn't take 1080p over VGA, but that's okay.
