My wife's computer has a virus, I think.

When I run the virus scanner, it show's a Capital W with a line across it.

I was wondering if any one may know the virus or whatever it is.

Thank You for any help

Charlie

Sorry, that should have been a Capital W with a line across it, in front of each file or object that is being scanned

Thanks

if the antivirus fails to remove it, first, disable system restore, restart into safe mode and try another full scan (after doing an antivirus update)

If that also fails to remove the virus, you can look for an online virus removal tool or better yet, remove the hard drive, slave in a 2nd pc, then scan it. The virus will be removed it its dormant. Put the hdd back in the original pc and boot back up virus free. Then re enable system restore so you're pc will have a clean restore point.

Hali Newf makes a good point. If you can find out the name or gen of the virus in question, we could help provide you with manual removal instructions.

viruses like to hide in system restore, best be sure its gone when you think its gone. you can also clear out all the temp inet files and all that crap before doing the scan - it reduces scan times too.

But slaving it is the best way to remove a virus without a wipe and reinstall.

Yeah. I always say nuke and clean install after virus infection.

Picture your computer like an old warship.

She's big, she's mighty, but if she's taken some hits over the years, no matter how well you patch up the holes it's still not going to be as strong as the day it was built.

Nahmsayin?

lol
