Post subject:  DVR box through TV cards?

So while my TV is down a friend just suggested putting the TV card back in my system & hooking up the DVR box to it. Will this work?

If its just a tv tuner card then yeah I think it would. You will probably have to switch your tv tuner card to channel 4 in order to view the DVR box output.

DVR boxes don;t have coax output ( if its an Eastlink Variety) . If its a standalone dvr , then perhaps that would work. Not entirely sure it would work hooking an Eastlink DVR to tv card. You would have to have a tv card with RCA\svideo\ inputs to get anywhere I would think

Most TV input cards also have S-Video In so that could also be used to send the signal rather then coax.

My TV card has both RCA & S-video through the one plug in. It works well just sux going from a 47" to a 21" but at least the picture is good quality lol.

If you're looking into a way to control the DVR via your computer. May i suggest the Media Center iR Blaster that comes with most HP remotes?

Haven't had to use one myself but it looks like a pretty good fix for what might other wise make a tricky project.

all u need to do is do what i am doing.
get your self media center 2005 or just get vista.
and setup the extender. i bought a 30$ some dollar card form mb. and it hasn't done me wrong. and the media center remote for another 30 some bucks.

That would mean having to spend way more money by buying Vista or Media center THEN the card THEN the remote. Seems kind of pointless when it works just perfect on the card I have & I can use the remote/s that came with the card & the DVR lol.

It works fine the way I have it set up though.
