I think I read that in the latest BIOS update for my board, I'd look up the link but the internets @ work don't like complicated web pages, let alone ASUS' version of a website:P

"However, AM3 processors are backwards-compatible with Socket AM2+, contingent upon a BIOS update for the motherboard."

my M3A32 MVP Deluxe is on the list, but not the M3A (which is a 770 compared to a 790FX southbridge)

Watch it with Asus. There were a few people that got AM2+ Phenom 2 and then discovered Asus had pulled support.

Safe is a relative term heh. What were you going to do with this computer again?

System is for gaming mainly, right now its a 2.4 64 X2 with 4gigs of 800mhz ram and a 3870512mb vid card figured the cpu is the bottleneck so going to the 3.0 64 X2 and possibly a 4870 1gig aswell.

with all that the 6000+ would probably still be the bottleneck for gaming. my 5200+ (2.6ghz 2MB cache) is a bottleneck for me and i have similar system to yours (4GB 800mhz ram and a 3870 512MB).

Once 939 was obsilete. it's been intel all the way for gaming, waiting for amd to really pull their heads out of their ass

I donno I think the Phenom II's look pretty good and if I was building now, and it was my money being spent, I'd seriously be looking at them. Sure I'd love to have an i7 but for the price/performance they seem to be positioned quiet well. It's an even sweeter deal for people who have motherboards that can be flashed to use them and I think AMD did great by keeping compatibility between their otherwise confusing socket changes.
