The MLC drives are supposed to have a 1,500,000 hour MTBF reliability when based upon 50GB of daily write transactions.

I stopped trusting theoretical lifespans after the gold archival CD-R's and CCF Lights. ;)

It was the same article which recommended not to defrag the SSDs, and to turn off this auto defrag in Vista.

I haven't been reading as much on SSD's as I should but that's an interesting idea that I actually haven't heard of yet so thanks for posting it on. :)

If it doesn't last that long why are people getting these then? lol I'll wait even though I don't have any money but still. they'll get better as they get older & cheaper ha.

these SSDs do have a practical use and are much better that rotating drives for limited applications.

They are overkill for a home PC, but then so is a watercooled i7 @ 4+Ghz.

So says the guy without a watercooled i7 heh.

And yes those SSD's are total overkill. Once Windows 7 goes retail (or a month before one can actually buy retail hehe) I'll jam that on the SSD's as Windows 7 has proper FS usage for SSD's.
