Post subject: | Core i7 Heatsink Recommendation |
Hi Everyone, I've doign a little more OC'ing with my Core i7 lately and the temps are getting a little too high for my liking. I'm looking for a new heatsink that will keep the temps nice and low and perhaps give me a little more headroom in the OC'ing department. Does anyone have any recommendations? I was thinking either the Coolermaster V8 or the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme 1366RT. |

I am using the CoolerMaster V8. It will keep the 965 below 70C with 8 threads on Prime95 with CPU V at 1.5V and CPU PLL at 1.9. Mind you, my air runs were with the window open. |

So I went with the coolermaster V8 and I wasn't disappointed! My idle temps went from 65C to 49C. Under full load I sit at about 75C running prime 95 on 8 threads. Thanks for the recommendation Skiman! |

it's a beast of a cooler, just glad it fits in your case. it barely closes the side panel in some. |

Now imagine that with a 90mm fan mounted on each side. My idle is about 32C, but I think the i7 might be lapped...can't remember |

Yea, the heatsink just barely fits in my case. It touches the side wall of the case when it's closed. I'm thinking that my idle temps are high because my case is really small. I have the 4870 in there and it's a SONIC card that doesn't vent to outside the case. I also have two hard drives that pump out lots of heat as well. Either way I'm still incredibly pleased with the temps. It's much better than running the CPU close to 90C while pegged at 100%. |

Indeed, that would add to high temps inside the case. I do have a Mozart TX gathering dust.... |
