I'm looking for a cheap CPU+Mobo Combo

Requirements are:

DDR2
SATA x2
x16 PCI-E
M-ATX or ITX preferred
CPU strong enough for smooth 1080P playback
cheaper the better

I am going to end up using an old S 478 single core w/hyperthreading cpu and a gig of ram for the machine that will end up streaming video.

Also going with an HD 4350 for the hdmi. Should work fine.

I am actually headin to MB in about 20 mins to pick it up. That at check out a few other things.

The HD 4350 works great for HD. Just has it running for a test.

Maybe I can just wait until I upgrade my main rig to an i7, The Q6600 doesn't even notice decoding a 1080P movie, then again it draws a tad bit more than 4W.

Shouldn't the Atom paired with a moderate GPU be enough for 1080P decoding? I thought that was one of the main reasons why nVidia started producing those Ion chipsets, so people could watch 1080P on their Netbooks.

Then again your problem may be that your Atom board doesn't have a slot for that I don't know.

The 2400Pro in it is decoding, sometimes. I downloaded 2 files, same source, same video file, one 720P the other 1080P, the 720P got offloaded onto the video card fine, the 1080P did not :evil:

uh oh.

Wonder if you could fix that with a better card. I havent tried a 1080p vid on the 4350 yet.

Its possible that the vid card leans on the cpu for help with that one.

Which would suck. The 4350 should handle it fine with no work being passed to the cpu.

......and now that I checked online it will do all the work so your cpu isnt taxed - right to 1080p

Also up to a max res of 1920 x 1200. Not bad for a $47 card.

Not much out there in PCI land :roll: The 33MHz bus alone could be giving me issues.

Well, the 2400Pro would get the boot for my 9800GT with a new mobo. Then I can at least use it's SPDIF pass through to eliminate a cable.
