Sure, it's been used for years with hobbyists, but this is the frist time i've seen it used in an industrial scale for business.

I'm not so sure about coating the hard drives with "magic pixie dust" so they can be submerged as well, though.

I wonder why they would though, its not like they would overclock things. Maybe its cheaper to keep mineral oil flowing than it is to keep air flowing?

On their site they state "over-clocking" as one of the features of the system. I'm sure it's more cost-effective once you start getting to larger scale applications.

Also all the heat may be more costly to cool in a work environment with air conditioning. I see plumbing for the oil which could lead to a outdoor source to dissipate the heat from the oil.

Well, it is in Texas so I'm not sure how much outside air cooling you would get.

I would say not bad even though it's wam. The fact would be to mitigate the amount of ac power indoors anyways.

With that much oil and a mild oc with oil you only would require temps like that.

They were talking about being able to regulate the overall temp of the "coolant" between 40C up to 60C, only problem is that the hard drives wern't rated to work at 60C.

They arn't talking about keeping the "coolant" at room temperature, so it's still going to be fairly warm in the server room. The main power saving they claim is 20% because there aren't a bazillion fans blowing air about.

%20 is a pretty big deal. I'm not sure I'd want to be sticking my fingers in some 60C mineral oil though.

Not to mention you're now only cooling something the size of a freezer instead of a whole room, which isn't as well insulated as those boxes.
