So here is the deal. I currently have an OCZ Vertex 2 120GB drive in my system. I have had it for about 2.5 years with no issues. Now I was thinking of replacing the drive with a Vertex 3 120GB since I have SATA3 (didn't have it when I got my last drive).

The thing is in the benchmarks the V3 kicks the crap out of the 2. But is it really worth it in real world usage?

And yes I have heard all about the problems with OCZ SSDs but I have never had an issue.

unless you do a lot of large file copying from one drive to another then you likely won't feel a thing.

will your current chipset make use of the increased speed?

Depending on what you install to it, the performance diff you will notice will be minor. As stated, large file copies installs etc will go much faster.

I'm running a P67 chipset and the drive would be for OS and apps. 120gb wouldn't handle my current storage needs.

That being said I am toying with the idea or running a bunch of VMs off of the Vertex 2 if I do it as a test environment. Or I'm sure I could sell the thing.

I run a simple small 60 Gig for games. Its flippin sweet as loads times are wicked quick. Getting into multiplayer before anyone else is nice lol

I'd never go back to a normal HDD for my OS and stuff. Having windows load nearly everything in 15 seconds is awesome. And photoshop launches in about 3 seconds so you can't beat it. I just don't know if I should bother with the upgrade since I'm not really sure it would be worth it. On paper it is but that doesn't mean much for real life.

As a Vertex3 120Gb owner I have to say you're missing out BIG time by only having a 2. ;) Kidding!

I personally would keep the one you have. I feel it's really the latency of SSD's that make them feel so much faster. Going from a HD to a SSD will drastically reduce latency, but from that point on the difference among latencies with the various SSD's is pretty minimal. The only other reason I would see for wanting to upgrade is to get more space, but this obviously isn't an issue for you as you'd be replacing it with another 120Gb.
