So the Anonymous guys are taking it up a notch and taking down all sorts of Sony web thingies, including PSN (no games 4 u!). Apparently a "splinter group" is going after individuals and their families in Sony now.

To the many people complaining online, you can't stop anarchists!

Well, whoever it was who was hacking the PSN basically took all the info of 77 million users. Sony is basically telling anyone who ever used the PSN to be on the lookout for: hacking, phreaking, cracking, phishing and DISCO DANCING!

"Anonymous" can be a force for good. but in this case i hope they find everyone responsible and hang them upside down by their toenails and flog them.

I just got Sony's "We F'ed Up" e-mail. Luckily I never had my credit card info with them because after having to format my PS3 to fix it I decided I would never pay for any of their digital downloads because if it happens again I would just lose all of that.

The internal hacking has been going on for months and months.

6 months ago my roommate had some crap installed on his computer and it compromised his WoW and hotmail accounts. Eventually it came to the point in which he was making new random gmail accounts on his PS3's web browser to associate with his WoW account, and "they" were still able to track it and keep on fudging with it. Only way he finally got that to stop was by making yet another gmail account on my computer and got one of those "magic decoder rings" for WoW.

Sony is going to lose all of it's money from the ensuing class action lawsuits. My roomate got the CC company to issue a him a new CC as well.

Say 50% of PSN users used their CC on the network for something at one time or another. This week those 35 millionish called up their CC provider to get a new CC. Most CC companies are owned by the banks, so you've basically got every bank in North America cursing Sony.

It must cost something to get a new credit card made and mailed out. You think banks are going to take a loss on this?

A) Pass the costs onto the cosumer
or
B) send Sony a bill for 350 million dollars

I'd like option B to be seriously looked at!

it's a bank, why make a choice when you can have both?

So Sony blames Anonymous for being a smokescreen hack to the real hackers that ran amok with user data!

Nevermind they wern't even running firewalls at all, or didn't update any patches. Or any of that other corporately responsible tasks they should have been doing.

I guess there's some sort of spam or phishing thing going on with this as well, because I got an email from Sony in my hotmail account, and I haven't used anything Sony since the original Playstation. (sold in 1999 before I started using DocB even)

Quote:
This isn't as bad as it could have been -- Sony's PSN hasn't exactly been hacked again -- but what can only be described as a glaring oversight looks to have forced the company into hastily switching off PSN logins on its websites. The issue? If you legitimately forget your password and need to reset it, previously all you had to do was type in your e-mail address and date of birth, then choose a delightfully cunning new password. Sounds good? The problem is that if you were a PSN member before the hack then both your e-mail address and your date of birth (plus a lot of other frightening stuff) is known to the hackers. So, whoever has the millions of rows of data that were exposed could, in theory, re-exploit any account. Sony was made aware of the issue and those pages are now offline again, which should make the Japanese government feel just a little big smug.
