Whoa G35's !

Don't those have multiple speaker elements in the headset that actually produce 5.1 digital surround? You can even hear "behind" you in game.

Very nice choice.

well 7.1. but tbh, i dont notice the difference between the 2 lol.
the sound is amazing vs a normal set of headphones.
the mic is great, and you can morph your voice with it as well, which i think is kinda neat.
it has 3 differnt settings that you can use to open up different media pgms (itunes, windows media player etc).
its quite impressive though.

I've always wondering how the CPU usage on these compares to a regular headset using the audio card's interface. I suppose nowadays its probably pretty negligible though.

Also, do the USB headsets still take advantage of the sound processing your audio card is doing or does it use it's own software? Needless to say, I haven't had much experience with them.

If I ever have to get another headset it'll probably be the G35. Pretty much the only brand-name I'm loyal to is Logitech. If I need something and Logitech makes it, chances are I'll buy that.

lol voice morph would be neat in Game. Nothing like sounding exactly like Satan or that you just sucked down some Helium.

Logitech do make good gear. I am partial to my G11. The new G series keyboard with full color screen is a lil over the top on price but it does look insane.

I am also in the market for a headset - I wouldnt mind going usb for the ease of it. I am guessing if you use usb you are having your pc's onboard doing the audio processing. Curious tho if theres a DAC converter so you may plug it in to your audio card.

Tho I think my next purchase will be the CM Sentinel Advance mouse.

Have you seen utube vids of fps's like cod with single shot weapons and that mouse doing rapid fire? It made me want one.

i notice a huge difference in sound between the regular hookups and the usb. quality of sound is almost day and night (and im not a huge nit for this).
the usb does connect to my sound card. (however when i do connect it, the sound to my speakers cuts off until i unplug my headset)
it comes with its own software however its more to utilize the functions on the headset, and to open programs which you can choose.

Logitech does make great products.
i would have went with them for my new keyboard too, but i went with the microsoft sidewinder keyboard with the detachable number pad. i play a lot of online poker and perfer to use my left hand for my number pad. having it on the opposite side of my keyboard makes it a lot easier for me.

im not sure tbh. i have it so it hooks up to the usb port provided by the tower.
and it spits out great sound (i think this is connected to my sound card though, sorry still learning)
i have a multi-card reader on the front of my tower w/a usb, and the sound out of that doesnt come close as to the one im using.

i bought the microsoft sidewinder mouse (the one with the weights etc). ive never been fussy with the wireless ones, ive had bad experiences with them.

ouird -

I have a left hand controller - an N52te. Its awesome. Plain and simple. If you play any kinda online game that requires the "WSAD" keys, this is for you - and then some.

http://tech2.in.com/media/images/2007/O ... 52te-1.jpg

I would do usb headset if the software would have the sound card do all the work. Until then, a crappy headset with the regular 3.5mm jacks.

I would like a headset, the G35 is pricey but amazing - as its hard to enjoy games with a kid sleeping and 5.1, 1010 watts and a 10in sub. I would do a headset for those times. I have to ask if you are able to hear "behind you" in game while playing any first person shooter while using this headset?

The CM Sentinel Advance mouse is a wired mouse. Reviews are great and I would like a little edge when playing against these kids that play 10hrs per day as they are obviously better than I am. I am going to go to MB and check one out in the next couple days and more than likely pick up one for me and a friend of mine.

Every single logitech headset I've plugged and seen plugged into the PS3 works, although you won't get the uber advanced functions. Actually the PS3 doesn't route in-game sound through the headset, it might be an option though in the console.

yeah, ive seen that rig before.
i actually thought about that, however i figured it would be one extra item on my desk, which is built into a closet (see picture), and im trying to aviod clutter (as well as the system being much more expensive then the keyboard lol).

Ill let you know if you can hear things "behind you" soon, ill give it whirl prolly tonight or tomorrow.

No room here for a Plantronics/Sennheiser fan is there?

Btw, use a proper sound card for gaming, and a good quality headset like sennheiser, plantronics or razer, and your usb headsets will never compare.

Also there is allegedly a bit of latency when using usb audio. Dunno how valid that is though.

Oh, and about the sentinel advance mouse, it does sound really cool and boasts some big numbers, but when it comes to gaming mice, don't let big numbers fool you. That mouse is running a whopping 5600dpi. My question: is there anyone out there using higher than 2000dpi? Seriously, after 2000 things just get twitchy. The most important factor in buying a gaming mouse is and always will be ergonomics. How it feels in your hand. Some can search forever spending hundreds (like me) for the right feeling mouse, only to find the best one for you is a cheap 40 dollar microsoft laser mouse.

I also give a thumbs up on the n52, although after using it and my fang keyset, I always fall back to my old faithful keyboard. Especially since I type a lot during games.

Keyboards are the same as mice, they need to feel right for you. Have that right click. Responsiveness. The sidewinder keyboard is a great choice ouril. I use an eclipse 2 since my old razer tarantula (rip) broke and its profile suits me fine.

LOL Steve-o

Yeah Phonix pretty much agreed on all points. I am using a 27 dollar OCZ equalizer and friggin like it. A cheap mouse that just works well for my use.

I could care less about the 5600dpi, twitchy it would be and I would likely never use it unless in a tank with a very slow turrent ( thinking ahead to the latest Battlefield installment coming soon). So I definately agree. I would do away with some of the flair if it dropped the price a little. A lil screen thats under the palm all the time? Like i'd use that either - well unless I can get a working jpg or bmp of a boob or two. ( hands on boobs while playing fps online...yeah that would be alright)

I want a new mouse for a few reasons. I did a little investigation on it and the features including it's truely sick rapid fire capability. ( youtube that up for call of duty) ...and I think it 'may' be the mouse for me, depending now when I actually see it in person and hold it in my hand. If not then I will wait and try a few others.

Besides the Ocz is showing signs of wear and its time that one was passed on to my secondary rig.

Its equally important to determine whether you're a claw (only finger tips touch buttons), flat finger (fingers lay flat on buttons) or palm style (entire palm rests on mouse).

That will be the trait that defines which mouse is best for you. They say claw is most accurate, then flat finger (which I use) then palm style due to more forearm movement. Preferably your forearm should never move, just your wrist (come on carpal tunnels!).

If you use flat finger or claw you'll want a smaller lower profile mouse like a razer diamondback/copperhead etc. Then as you move up to flat finger/palm style logitech (G5 and G9) and ocz (Behemoth) tend to produce larger profile mice.

Man the behemoth is one huge mouse if that's your thing!

I use a Razer Copperhead 3G and it's the only mouse since the Diamondback that has satisfied my need for a low profile mouse.

Tough choice so shop around.

Oh and as far as a screen "right" under your palm, wouldn't you be worried about heat/sweat?

They need a mouse like them ol xbox/gamecube controllers with the built in ac for keeping your hands uber dry and comfortable. That I would buy.

Can you believe I type all these rambles out on my phone? I need a PC this is killing me..

LOL @ all this out on my phone

Agreed again. Most of this is common sense in the terms that well, whats comfortable and works well - go with it.

Thats the problem where I come in. Huge hands. So theres not much out there thats overly comfortable. I haven't tried the razor Behemoth but would very much like to hold one.

I 'have' to do a cross tween flat and claw cause of most mice being too small and the style at which I like to use a mouse, because of this, its for me a cross of both. My palm dont really touch the mouse, its more of the underside of my knuckles that do the movement or three fingers, depending on what I am doing (gaming or not)

Thumb on left side, pinky finger and next finger on the right side control most movement. Not my palm. Index and middle finger poised to click either left and right. My palm sometimes is on the mouse, depending on what I am doing - so mostly claw. I roll my thumb slightly to hit the back and forward buttons which also double as melee in game or enable boob zoom for quick action.

I am sending 'the missus' to MB tomorrow while I am at work to grab the Sentinel for me and a friend of mine. If I get it home and its not big enough or comfortable, I am go with a razor behemoth I guess.
