| Post subject: | fans start up but computer wont? |
So i was cleaning the dust in my computer, I went to clean it around the processor and all the cooling paste started comming off, so i took the rest of it off. Then when i went to start up the computer it wouldn't start no more, only the fans run. Could my computer possibly not be booting becuase theres no CPU cooling paste? if so, how much would it cost to get some new stuff and how easy is it to apply? |

your computer should still post, did you put the heatsink back on and plug the fan in? thermal paste can be cheap and is fairly easy to apply..search the webs theres lots of tutorials, i think one of our members Krush even put a guide on here ... |

its fucked, the CPU fan turns on. I hit the power button every fan turns on, then when i go to turn it off, the button wont work to turn it off so i have to turn the power off by hitting the switch on the back. |

Take out the battery on the board for a bit or reset the CMOS. Just a hunch. P.s or it could be fried... |

there's a jumper on the board, usually near the cmos battery. the jumper will be covering two pins in a set of three pins. move the jumper to the so that it covers the middle pin and the currently uncovered pin for about 15 seconds and then move the jumper back. alternatively, you can remove the battery for several minutes (not sure how many exactly) and then put the battery back in. |

kept the battery out over night, for about 10 hours. Put it back in today and still nothing, all the fans start up but not the computer. |

May seem silly, but did you inspect the ATX power connectors from both the MB and PSU to verify there are no broken pins/wires. Also if you're using a 20+4 pin connector, make sure they are both properly plugged in to the motherboard. |

im not too sure whats suppose to be where as far as the motherboard its self. Thats why this part is abit hard for me, i dunno whats suppose to be plugged in and whats not, is there a picture that would tell me, or if i upload a pic of how my mobo is now just pick out whats right and whats not lol. Sure go ahead and upload a pic of your current connections and I'm sure we can give you the nod if it's hooked up correctly. You should always follow the manuals for both your CPU and your MB when it comes to initial install. |
