hey all..

A friend of mine just pieced together a new system with the 5850 vid card.

He has been seeing that when he visits a heavily populated area in Aion( in town) he gets 5 mins then a crash to the desktop.

Out of town he can play indefinitely. Any idears that I may pass along?

his room mate has the exact same system, only diff is the video card (and no solid state drives), he's playing on a 8800GT and has no issues.

He's running an :

Asus M4A78-E
Phenom II 940
Asus 'volt tweaked edition' 5850
4 gig's 1066 OCZ
2 solid state hdd's in raid 0
Windows 7 Ultimate

Has he tried opening his case and pointing a big room fan directly at the inside yet? It's not a definitive test for heat issues (heatsinks could be making very poor contact to one of the die's for instance) but it's a pretty good and easy test. If that checks out I would try memtest... I'm all about testing the easy things early on if you haven't guessed. ;)

Sounds like an issue with the "brand new" mmorpg but running memtest definitely wouldn't hurt. Grab Memtest86+ V4, seems to be the best one to date. We use it on every build here in the shop.

Wait till tomorrow and give the new 9.10's a whirl, that's when "official" support begins heh.

Open a ticket and scream at the GM who responds to you as if he/she was the one that personally wronged you with your sub-par gaming experience. ;)

It's probably just a memory leak that will be fixed with the next driver release.

whats he running for a psu? if the video card cranks up to full capacity in town, could be drawing to much power for a generic psu..bu the looks of the componets though, i doubt it would be a generic

I'm fine with 430W, with an ever so slightly more power hungry video card, so you can go by that as the yardstick.

I've had "decent brand-name" PSU's go apeshiit and blow up perfectly good boards.

Well to put the psu thing to rest, Its a brand new 700w OCZ. I carefully calculated all of his parts into the best online calculator I could find. I still suggested a few hundred watts above what he would use so it would run cool, good for upgrading, cover cap aging etc.

His room mate can play the game with a virtually the same system and not have the issue.

The fan in the side didn't resolve the issue, He tried turning all the settings down, res, game settings etc and ran a mem test, all clear. still occurring.

One thing he didnt do was install the chipset drivers from ATI. He let windows handle it.

so lol when he goes home today, hes going to remove everything, install chipset first, reboot, then CCC and try again.

well..He was searching the internet this am while @ work here ( lol ) and found this 30 page forum on the subject.

There's alot of people having this issue, for those who are, its all the same. Crowded areas is a place to avoid unless you wanna unexpectedly be sitting at your nudie desktop wallpaper counting hairs on the nips.

For some ( for now ) a fix is to set AA to application controlled. It doesn't work for all but for some. There is a game issue thats getting alot of complaints to ATI and NCSoft alike. Poopy.

Another temp fix is to SHIT F12 and hide all the character models.....yeah nice fix for PVP.
