Hey, I ran out and bought a SimpleTech external HD, about $120 for a 500GB one on sale at Bestbuy like 2 months ago.. Now it noticed but didn't notice that when i turned it on sometimes, windows would lock up, then resume when I turned it off.. this happened like once or twice.. and now it does it ALL the time... now windows will try to recognize it.. install driver.. but fail.. not finding one... So it thought well.. an external HD is just a HD w/ a circuit board converting those cables to cables blah blah.. So I openned it up, unhooked it.. plugged it into my mobo (Sata of course) It shows up on the dos bootup screen. When I'm in windows I can see it in explorer and in mananger.. however it doesn't show me its format (like FAT or NTSF w/e it is). Also when I click it in explorer I get this INPAGE ERROR!.. I tried to get GetDataBack w/ NTSF format and all I get is a bunch of a errors.... From what I researched it sounds like a virus perhaps? maybe I should just reformat it.. ? I just dont wanna lose it.. theres almost 400GB on it of pictures, videos, movies, and over 200GB in tutorials for school.. any ideas? Im dling Hiren Boot cd 9.5 to try and sort it out... Also my PC seems to struggle when i go to safemode.. in dos it'll load all those files.. but just stop.. so I cant really get into safemode...

I got Hirens Boot Disc 9.5... Im doing the HDDscan and All I get is a massive bust of bad blocks...

Im looking at 800 5ms ones so far, then 96, 56,, 2 green, then 41 blocks now.. and its only been like 5minutes.

I'm not at the computer but I bought a LaCie 500GB from Futureshack and basically it was left on 24/7. Now it's been acting really stupid the past month or so, and I'm praying that it still works when I get back, since there was a bunch of stuff on it that I would rather not download again to watch.

I think I'm going to avoid buying almost every "deal" from FS from now on. Not that big of a deal since all I mostly ever buy from them is blank media and monitors.

I really don't like buying the super cheap deals when they come out and our situations seem to confirm that mantra.

La Cie was the 500GB HD i had before i bought this 500GB Simpletech... the La Cie when it boots up making a loud clicking sound.. its fried... so best of luck to you with yours.. .as for my simpletech... i may just see if i can reformat it... bite the bullet and lose all my stuff. But yeah I dont think any hardware at futureshack or bestbuy is any good

I've used a lot of LaCie products in the past and they always seemed to be reliable for me but I'm sure glad I didn't pick up that 500GB external hard drive that FS has had on sale forever because I have been hearing a lot of problems. I even had it in my hands and was so close to getting it at one point too.
