$450 for a 7950, yeesh, the 5850 was only $300ish when it was released.

We can blame team green for dropping the ball, and the early adopters always dole out the dosh. We'd have to compare prices with the other MSRP's of the same cards in the lineup at the time...

4850 = $200 (67% of the 4870) 4870 = $300
5850 = $300 (79% of the 5870) 5870 = $380
6850 = $180 (75% of the 6870) 6870 = $240
6950 = $300 (81% of the 6970) 6970 = $370
7850 = $250 (83% of the 7870) 7870 = $300
7950 = $450 (81% of the 7970) 7970 = $550

Although the price is higher, it's pretty darn close to the same percentage as the top of the line card for the last several gens. Actually it's a lot closer than I had figured, before I plopped the numbers down.

I'd like to see a direct comparison of a 7950 to a 5850 (and a 6950 to boot), I'm pretty sure it would perform more than 150% better, all other things being equal.

But yes, I agree, 450$ is quite a lot of cashola to drop on a 2nd bestest card.

Cringe at the cost of a 7990; 850$ MSRP....which is actually a steal compared to 2x 7950s heh.

I'd love to have a 7950 but I am not paying that.

Id do a 6950 first.

We'll see in "about" 2 months when team green comes out with their latest space heate^H^H^Hvideo card, Kepler or whatever.

Competition is good, as long as both sides release at the same time. Glad I'm in no position to buy until August at least...

I would also like a comparison of the 4xxx, 5xxx, 6xxx to their new replacement counter parts 7xxx cards to see where they stack up. Help me determine if I should dump my 5850 for a new 7xxx

Not at the current price, my friend. Wait and pray that NV doesn't drop the ball and releases a product at a better price/performance ratio so that AMD has to reduce their prices...

Nvidia has been delayed apparently.

they had to wait till they got their own 7970 before starting work.

Charlie D has a long-winded article, looks legit as always from that site.

Kinda ironic that NV is going to a 256bit bus for memory when AMD is going to a 384bit.
Quote:
All of the benchmark numbers shown by Nvidia, and later to SemiAccurate, were overwhelmingly positive. How overwhelmingly positive? Far faster than an AMD HD7970/Tahiti for a chip with far less die area and power use, and it blew an overclocked 580GTX out of the water by unbelievable margins. That is why we wrote this article. Before you take that as a backpedal, we still think those numbers are real, the card will achieve that level of performance in the real world on some programs.

That bodes well, then read on blah blah blah *optimizations*.

"the card will achieve that level of performance in the real world on some programs"
he also says it will be like falling off a cliff in other programs.

Nvidia's rumor mill is working overtime. I don't know what to believe. lol

well seeing as card prices like fuel prices are skyrocketing I wont jump on the 7 series bandwagon yet.

Instead I found a brand new HIS brand 2GB HD 6970 Ice-Q Turbo ( 900MHZ 2GB 5.6GHZ GDDR5 ) online at a very major e-tailer for 279.99 after 20 buck MIR and they knocked off 100 bucks as a sale up front to begin with ( reg being 379.99 )

Seeing as the 6950's e-tail for slightly more than this and in some cases ALOT more, I charged it and its on its way.

The latest FUD from team green land has the flagship 690 (duallie) at a whopping 999$, with only 2GB frame buffer per card :roll:

If any of this is true then it looks like NV is totally giving up on multi-monitor gaming. BF3 on eyefinity can use over 2GB of memory.

Along with a bunch of othe cards with stupid memory busses and weird memory sizes (think 224bit with 1792MB ram), but it's just crazy talk now.
