well that crazy talk is still in line with the paths NV has been taking. I am wondering why any card maker hasnt been doing 4G cards. I assumed this would be the case awhile back with the 7 series ATI cards but no dice.

Ya, the voltage and temperatures look good but I find it odd that overclocked it runs the fan speed at 80%, where as the older/nVidia cards stay around 50%. At stock the fan speed and temperatures look more in line with the gains it's showing thought so I donno.

You can always edit the fan profile, insane speeds often don't make much of a difference anyway.

My 5850 sits at around 72ºC with a full GPU load(folding) and stock clocks with the fan at 30%. I don't think it went much higher when OC'd to the nuts. The x1950 I first GPU folded on would go to 90ºC no matter how high the fan was.

the version of 5850 I just sold had default fan of 20 percent. I bumped it up about 38% so its under the "I can hear the fan" threshold and kept the card @ 30 degrees. Low to mid 40's under load.

The 6970 ICE-Q i just picked up is FAR quieter with much higher fan speeds which I am liking alot. I didnt test the temps yet but I am assuming they should be about the same.

7770 coming in at 160$ retail and 7750 is at 110$, 7770 is currently overpriced compared to other AMD 6xxx products...A good problem to have for AMD, but that 7770 price needs to come down a bit to be useful.

7850, and 7870 by mid march.

My 5870 still holds it's own with these cards. I could skip this gen easily. I only use one monitor at 1080p
I have my 5870 BF3 stable at 1015/1280 @ 1.337v so far. Temps are 65c at 45% fan speed.

I am really thinking on retiring my HD5850 and get the HD7870. The price for HD7870 is the same price I paid for my HD5850. Looks like a really nice upgrade path. Plus I am going to get a new 22" monitor 1920 x 1080. to replace my 22" 1650 x 1050 monitor. Do you guys think the 7870 would be a nice upgrade from my 5850?

Having seen the 7870 beat the 6970 in most scenarios, I would say that it's 350$ MSRP is justified (but the whole damn lineup needs to go down 25%)

The 7850 coming in at 250$ MSRP, seems like decent performance though.

I'd like to see how two 7870's in crossfire compare to a single 7970.

Ern, I'd say that for 1920x1200, a 7870 right now is a good choice, but wait until NV hopefully releases a good product at a better price to bring prices down by the end of March. The 7870 beats the crap out of a 6950, which is way better than a 5850 :P

I popped into MB over the weekend and picked up a new 850 psu and eyeballed the box for the 7950.

Much too pricey for me, i dont see dropping over 500 bucks for a vid card. I just picked up a 6970 ice-q for 200 bucks anyways so thats a decent upgrade from a 5850 and for less than i paid for the 5850 , about 150 less.

I wont jump into a 7 series for awhile yet. Least until all the buzz slows down and NV releases a few new cards to drop the price outta the f'n clouds.
