Undecided as to which route to go... anyone have strong feelings (backed with solid reasoning) as to which way to go? I'm leaning towards ATI as my motherboard is Crossfire capable... add another 4870 when they drop down in price??

I'm using Clarke's old Q6600 @ 3.2Ghz (yeah I backed it down...lol) so I shouldn't cpu limited (with a single card).

Seeing as how your board is crossfire capable then yeah I'd go with the 4870.

Is it a real crossfire board or one of the x16/x4 ones?

The board has two x16 slots that operate at x8 when using a crossfire setup (ASUS P5Q3)... plenty of bandwidth... at least currently?

4870

If you happen to have a 280 option 280 over 4870 unless it's the X2.

280 and 4870X2 are both outside the budget unfortunately... 4870X2 would be ideal....

I would definitely go for the 4870 then over a 260 anyday.

Here would be my order of cards I would buy personally.

1. 4870x2
2. GTX 280
3. 9800 GTX OC
4. 4870
5. 260

So if anything when it came to the nutty gritty and cost. I would definitely recommend a 9800 GTX OC over a 4870.

I still support team green. And it's a fun card to OC.

9800GTX over the 4870 and GTX260? Not sure I follow that... bang for the buck I guess? Like the 8800GT a while back?
