Post subject: | GTX 260 core 216 or 4870 1Gb |
Hi, So now that I'm in Canada again I've finally gotten around to start picking out parts for my new desktop. I have almost all the parts picked out but I seem to be stuck on which video card I should choose for the system. I'm torn between the newer Nvidia GTX 260 core 216 or the ATI/AMD HD4870 1gig. I have always been an Radeon guy every since I got my first computer and haven't been let down yet, so at first that was my choice...but lately I've been reading about Nvidia's work with CUDA in the area of GPU programming looks useful. Especially in things for Video conversion and editing using the adobe CS4 suite. Anyone have advice on things I should consider or which card I should go with? |

I would pick neither of those models. I would recommend a 9800 though over a 4870 or 260. Over a 9800 then I would pick a 280 or 4870x2 |

Heh, pretty split replies, I expected that. I think that both are solid cards, but in the end I think that I'm leaning towards the HD4800 series. I just really like ATI cards and never had a reason to switch. Since AMD is really taking a beating in the CPU department these days I figure that I will support them in their GPU department. Thanks for the advice! |

reason when i went from a 9800 to a 4870 there wasn't any or enough improvement for the buck so I would stay team green |

the entire 9800 line is just a refresh of the 8800's. the 9800gt is identical to the 8800gt just a different cooler on some models. |

I'm really preferring Ati's offerings right now. An X2 is massive overkill though for most users, I typically don't even have CF enabled |

I'm seriously considering getting an HD 4870X2, I just have to try and justify the $700+ price tag. Maybe I will get a 4870 1gig for now and if I feel the need I will grab another one down the road. |
