Interesting bits are the 850MHz clock (125MHz more than normal, which is a hugh OC coming right from the manufacturer), and the 2.5 slot cooling Fighter Jet look.

Alos uses 4GB of ram (!) and 2 8-pin and 1 6-pin connector. This is a custom job by Asus so I'm guessing it's 2 regular 5870 cores instead of half-binned gimped @ 5850 core speeds (or 5890 parts!). Only miff is that it comes with an DVI/HDMI/DP output instead of DVI/DVI/miniDP config.

If I was going to upgrade from a 5870, it would be to this beasty! I'd like to see a water cooling block for it as well. This looks to be a 1000$ video card, after taxes. Also, not the lack of a crossfire bridge thingy.

Yeah there's a Crossfire bridge, the card is just so damn big it makes it look too small.

What kind of power supply would you need to run that and an over clocked i7 930 in a case full of cooling fans? Would a Corsair HX 750 work? Can something like this be gotten through Mystery Bytes?

I'm sure a 750W PSU would be fine, as long as you had all the proper power connectors.

I wouldn't count on actually being able to find one of these anywhere for a price a sane person would pay.

Sanity is highly overrated IMO.

Sanity is for those who think upgrading to a Pentium 486 is a good idea.

A wee bit power hungry me thinks.

Sapphires 5970 4GB Toxic is over at Tweaktown, running at 900/1200

Power hungry yes agreed - but also consider whats on that pcb, two true 5870 gpu's and 4 GB of GDDR5. Also the single most fastest card ever benched. Way to go ATI.

It's crushing everything. Wonder how many kidney's one has to sell to own one.

900MHz core stock, excellent. Not that hitting 900MHz is hard at all on any 5870. 500W+ probable power draw in real life is an attention getter, but the idle numbers are fabu.

Yeah, but can it play Crysis? Hopefully in the full review they throw some eyefinity at it, any maybe some Fermi SLI (if they actually have 2). I'd like to see the power draw compared to 2 5870's in xfire @900MHz a pop and GTX480(TRI)SLI (if it doesn't melt dow - hah I never get tired of that).

The most important question is...

Not quite, it's clocked lower than Sapphire's

HWC got an Ares to review

http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/ha ... eview.html

Quote:
Cons:

- Price / performance ratio
- Can’t compete with two HD 5870 cards in most situations
- Still suffers from Crossfire’s shortcomings
- Quite loud when under load
- Including Smart Doctor with a $1200 card is a massive faux pas
- High idle power consumption
