been looking into this as i plan on picking up one of those 460's soon, from what i can find out it seems in order to run 3 lcd's you need 2 cards in sli... now for the price/hassle ati has them beat as even my 5770 can run 3 lcds on one card... any thoughts?

It works. It works (so far) better than ATi's solution. If one wants surround gaming, 2x460's is the way to go, not a 5870. We'll see how much crap ATi fixes in the next couple months with their drivers to counteract it.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to be a re-re-re-re-re-re-binned part. My max is 5 re-bins.

Also, don't forget one needs an SLI motherboard to do surround with NV cards. Not an issue in your case.
