I just wanted to comment on how expensive the i7 motherboards are right now. Everything I've seen has been in the $300-400 range and that's just sickening at the moment. :(

X chipset boards are generally expensive. Hopefully a P55 chipset is in the works.

How is that sickening? I paid that for my Striker II Formula ffs. That's a fair price for a new board if you ask me. Well for the lower end models I mean anyways.

there will be mainstream i7's and motherboards late 1st quarter early 2nd quarter, what the specs of these products are i am not sure as of yet.

the current models of the i7 and x58 will drop price as the eccentrics who must have it now get there fix.

It's coming from someone who felt bad when he once paid over $200 for a board and hasn't done so again since. :)

I'm usually in the $100-150 range if I can.

Heheh yeah I used to be that way to. I bought my Striker II Formula just for the PCIe layout on it lol. I was using a P5N-D that worked fine but added Acceleros to my cards & needed space to put fans on them lolol.

i already posted this in another thread but i think its relevant here as well fo FX

looks like the P55 chipset won't be ready till late summer early fall and will not use quick path but instead keep the same DMI interconnect from current core 2's :(
so i guess i will be going x58/bloomfield in the new year

apparently the mainstream i7 chips won't even be on the 1366 socket, it will be on socket 1160(1156 pins actually). i will be interested on what this will mean feature wise. the last time i remember a vendor offering two sockets to the desktop market like that was when the athlon 64 launched and they had socket 940 (fx series) and 939.

the mainstream i7 core will be lynnfield. and the only change i have heard is it will be dual channel ddr3 not tri channel like bloomfield/1366
