Actually when you put it that way - you are probably right. That and the added pain in the right ass cheek of maintenance. Guess I will forgo Liquid until my next build.

That OCZ setup is kinda crazy. Highly suggests you coat your board in silicone and what not cause of condensation as it will quite literally freeze where it makes contact. There's a photo of frost buildup on the cpu block. Only thing I would wonder about is your board getting overly warm with a fresh thick coat of silicone insulating everything where applied.

Even for me thats a lil overkill. Nucking Futs.

The fact is. I made mistakes in purchasing cooling where I hit a wall where I was already at with air. IT sucked.

Coating your board isn't a big ordeal. But the lightspeed vapochill is a great unit as well. Priced at 820 USD.

Seems it's available easily and is built alot better.

I think when I have the coin for a new build I may personally do a phase change build.

Other than that. The only person who has done this (yet again, hehe) is Skiman. He would be the goto guy for questions I would assume.

I have a Mach II GT unit that I have not used in about 2 years now. I don't know if it still has a Freon charge.

It would easily keep the X6800 chilled to between -62C and -50C on full load.

Besides the added noise, which really wasn't too bad, the cooling solution is meant to install and leave it. Removing and installing the cooling head on a regular basis will cause damage to the flexible stainless steel hose. The other issue is finding a good case to partner it with. The standard case the cooler came with was made from steel with razor sharp edges; however, Lian Li does made some nice cases specifically designed and cut for the Mach II GT. Another issue is for new socket designs needed a new mounting bracket for the head. I would recommend getting a unit that mounts to the motherboard with a universal bracket/arrangement.

Right now I am working on designing and building a cooling system that will revolutionize the computer industry for both civilian and military applications. Funding is the big issue as this stuff is not cheap to play with.

Here are the results of the Mach II GT cooling my X6800 on an ABIT AW9D-Max.

I think im going to pick up one of these units for my budget build next.

Look up some reviews on this cooler which is water self-contained setup.

Coolit Domino ALC

Pretty damn nice piece for about 79 USD

And yes. Ski is a pretty godly PC guy. He knows his shit, period.
Personally is he argues a point I made. I just bow down and take it.

Thanks, but it just goes to show anyone can get those results by throwing some bucks at it.

After the arrival of the Q9450 in a new system, I played around with some hardwired volt mods and forced the AW9D-MAX to exceed all normal design specifications for too long of a period. I melted a regulator chip and lifted several traces from the board due to excessive heat.

I like these self contained TEC water systems and think these are the best bang for the buck, such as the Coolit Systems Boreas 12 Tec Chiller. The only issues with these is having the case to put them in...or you can by your own parts and make something similar 8)

That would be a good solution for a Supermicro MBD-X8DAL-I-O based system.

The Coolit Domino ALC is one very well thought out product. I may have to keep my eye out for one of those buggers. Definately a great unit for those who have never liquid cooled before. The numbers on cooling are impressive for 79USD. Not bad at all.

didnt get a chance to redo the overclock on the 940 BE 2day. Ended up putting in a larger hdd in my secondary and partitioning it , winxp pro 64-bit installed. Just having issues with getting Windows 7 RTM to install - corrupt files  so reburning two diff images @4x and going to try again in the am - then re-do the 940 aiming at 4Ghz tomorrow following some friendly advice from the Skiman.

I will post the results or some hair folicles if I start pulling them out in fustration. Hope the ambient tomorrow isnt what it was today or I am going to have to get a air conditioner and run a hose to the intake of my pc. Humidity suks a$$.

Gave up on win7 RTM until I get -R. Did install the 7beta 64-bit and Liking it alot. I didnt get a chance to go thru much, poked around the os a little - but liking it enough to do up the RTM soon and keep it.

Not quite as snappy as xp 64-bit tho but darn close to it. I like how it picked up literally everything and just 'worked'. I did do the catalyst drivers but still - it knew all the hardware. Nice first impression. An os to be worthy to surpass xp?
