 Seriously AMD, I beat that 1M superPi score with an E6300 @ 2.8Ghz like 5 years ago now...

the FX-8170 is the way to go - nice turbo freq while utilizing 1866Mhz DDR3. Be nice if the timings were in the ballpark of 9-9-9-24

These are just the 8-core cream of the crop variants. There are several Quad and Hex core BD's as well. Up in the air still on whatever 890 mobos will support what.

so is this happening September or what?

I got my eye on a sweet Asus 9 series chipset motherboard ( ASUS M5A99X Evo )

by then the 1866 ram should also be a smidgen cheaper too hopefully.

yes and a higher DDR3 - 1866 to 2000Mhz.

Which with timings put in the mix , makes it mean nothing.

Ram pretty much with the exception of the really pricey stuff, performance wise is pretty well comparable and pretty much the same across the board give or take.

800Mhz ram running timings of 4-4-4-12 is pretty much the same as 1600Mhz ram running 9-9-9-24 as its not just the frequency but also the number of passes. Think about it, twice the clock speed and also more than twice (slower) timing - thus its on the same performance plain within reach of each other. Its all marketing pretty much.

Now there is some ram out there thats 2000Mhz with really low timing which would be amazingly fast, but would also really break the bank. So when I buy ram, I try to pick something that has a nice clock with as low timing as possible within the money range I am willing to pay.

I haven't upgraded yet. But the FX-8150 looks good. Just going to wait on benchmarks and test. If price and performance is good. I maybe going back to AMD. If not. And can't wait anymore. The Intel i5 2500K will be my new upgrade. the ball is in AMD's court. Just waiting for them to serve it up
