Blah blah blah, I do like the "AM3 processors are also compatible with AM3+ motherboards!".
Means I don't have to buy all 3 parts (CPU, mobo, ram) at once. Means I'm more likely to buy a new mobo/ram sooner.

I think that AMD Bulldozer won't make it pass Intels Sandybridge. I think it is going to fall behind. I don't want to think this. All the info I can absorb is saying that it won't beat or match intels new offering. I wish. I guess time will be the judge.

If you're an AMD fan for the RIGHT reasons, then PRICE will be the judge.

My 965 is still competitive with most i7's in gaming and $100+ cheaper...

No brainer

If AMD does what it does best (offer cheaper, close to intel performance, parts with a much lower manufacturing cost) then Bulldozer will NOT be as powerful as sandybridge, but will be close and a hell of a lot cheaper.

(I just built a friend of mine an AMD machine with a 5870, Thuban 1090T and 890FX motherboard, along with all other components except hdd, for under $1000, try getting that performance from intel with the same budget)

As long as you want to pay twice as much for intel, go right ahead. If you feel you want to pay 300$ for a high end 1156 chipset and 300$ for a "mid-range" 1156 Intel whatever it is, that's your choice.

For what it matters, the "integrated graphics" will be totally inadequate for anything we gamers want to use, if it exists at all.

That is an AMD system besting an Atom and an Ion system. I don't really know or care what exactly the specs are, but whatever that system is a "tablet" computer. No one here is going to be playing WoW on a train for 5 hours using a tablet computer on that kinda crap res.

FWIW I care about Tom's as much as I want a root canal.

You can't, because Intel doesn't make video cards. What, you gonna buy some sorta heat lamp that raises the temp of your desk to over 100F?

This is HardOCP people. I respect Kyle Bennet as much as I respect the last 2 presidents to also come out of Texas, but THAT IS WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE TO RUN 3 MONITORS WITH THE BEST NVIDIA SOLUTION.

Sure, the 580 is loads better than the 480, but the 480 is DISCONTINUED and the 580 still costs over 600$. This is a no-win situation for everyone other than people with unlimited money and who love nothing better to do than run benchmarks all day.

What's the point? I have no point. You have to buy AMD no matter what, so why not get a top to bottom AMD system. That is where Intel falls flat on it's face, sure there isn't as much profit from selling discrete graphics, but we're the loudest MOFO's on the faceof the plent when it comes to bragging rights.

Agreed. I like knowing I have a 100% AMD system and not a nickel of my money went to Intel for their overpriced components.

Which brings another point to mind. I also like the idea of all new ATI cards are now AMD cards. Just the brand name change helped further the image of the 100% AMD system.

Could you imagine an Intel Geforce GTX 680 with Hyperthreading?

Now we're cooking! (The mean lean budget grilling machine) did I mention it generates alot of heat?

All this talk of having a complete AMD system is reminding me of the arguments Mac Zealots make on why their computers are better than PC's. ;)

You mean they're not? I though the more expensive something was, the better it is!

for my last upgrade i would have gone with an i5 750 and some sort of 1156 board if i could have gotten a build by intel board with SATAIII and USB3. but, i like my AMD, cost me a shit-ton less and with more RAM i was able to install a virtual machine of vista enterprise in virtual box last night in 15 minutes flat. and feel no slowdown to the rest of the system while installing.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying AMD is any better than Intel or a 100% AMD system makes my pc better than the next. I just like the fact that it is all AMD. To me it's kinda like buying a $5000 Armani suit and wearing $10 wal mart shoes with it.

Also, every peripheral in my system is Razer brand. It also is cool knowing I'm "Powered by Razer". I have a Razer Deathadder, Copperhead, Arctosa and Carcharias. Razer needs to come out with gaming cases so I really could have everything by Razer. lol

I am upgrading probably in the fall next year. So, by then all the offerings from AMD and Intel should be on the table. Maybe I will go back with AMD. Not sure. But by then we will know the prices and benches of the new stuff. The last AMD system I had a was an old 3400 XP I do believe and that wasn't yesterday. If the price is right and near Intels performance. it will be a no brainer. AMD will be my pick. But if AMD's CPU performance fall too far off Intels CPU's to save a few bucks. Then Intel will be my pick. I go for the best bang for the buck. I am not a die hard Intel fan. I am just happy with my E8400. It has treated me good for the 3 years I have had it. And it is still going strong. :D

all i can add to this is my usual quote and general advice, "buy the best you can when you want it". so unless there's something better hitting the shelf tomorrow for about the same price, there's no sense in waiting. new stuff comes out every 6 months and most people don't have the time or money to keep up with it.
