K10, boom or bust? AMD's been keeping the lid on benches, some stuff has trickled out, some good, some awful

First attempt at a poll(for me) on the new forums...

None of the above `cause I don't think it's gonna fully suck, but I have my doubts it will be kicking much Intel ass.

If it was going to blow us away, I'd expect a lot more major leakage in an attempt to keep folks on the fence rather than picking up one of the newer intel chips.

I doubt their silence leading up to the christmas season is about delivering a sucker punch to intel's current king of the hill position.

I think the ATi acq really help keep the tailspin AMD was in going. I think the next proc from them is going to be the evolutionary one, this is just going to maintain position right along side the big I.

i voted other. while i'd like to see it kick serious ass i have my doubts. since the next line of amd xpu's will work in my current setup just fine that's probably the way i'll go just to cut costs even if the performance is a little lower.
the other thing i'll be paying attention to is pricing. if the cost on them is way out to lunch then i'll probably ignore them even if they do turn out to be the superior product.

It's going to depend totally on how quickly AMD can ramp up it's clockspeeds, it's known that 3GHz versions exist, however retail models will not be near that for quite some time. Intel's new 45nm's can do 4.1GHz on air, and while K10 may be faster clock for clock than Penryn, if it doesn't scale well, overclockers will stick with Intel.

I'm really hoping AMD will be able to pull through an offer a competetive product, cheaper CPU's for everyone in both camps.
