Post subject:  Paint?

The build I am doing for an X-Mas gift for my older brother is going well. Board and Ram is going to be picked up tomorrow evening.

To make this a little more unique I would like to paint mod the internals of the case somewhat using UV reactive paint. I have two 12in cold cathodes now for this purpose and a plan for the wiring. But, no point in installing them unless something is going to react, thus - does any of you know where in the HRM one can get UV reactive paint? It would save me time in going from place to place looking. I would prefer to head to one shop, get it and go home.

When I have the Paint, I can color some of the interior or do a design with it - at that point it's pretty much open.

Thanks for any/all suggestions

Ever think of doing a combination of paint and chrome adhesive filament wrap?

Here is an old box of mine, XP2400+ I think on a pelt.

RockerStylz is a maker of this product line and can be found at some automotive shops. They have some great chrome filament patterns.

I have to say Ski - thats pretty different, reminds me of "that 70's show" bow chicka bow chicka bow disco time :P

I definitely like it. That's a Thermaltake full tower? I have the exact same one for my 2nd pc. Decent case - also doubles as a car jack as its pretty friggin tough.

I can see you removed the drive bays and the two front fans to open things up. nice job indeed.

The case I will be using is a cheapie case (mint cond)- with 4 optional 80mm fans for airflow. Molded top handle with a vent underneath. ( I will have to snap some photos to get some input) It will serve its purpose well for the minor use it will get. Coating the insides with that would reflect light like a bastard. Great Idea. You can get this at automotive shops? price? I am thinking it would reflect the UV quite well - and perhaps opt for simple black non-led fans and maybe paint those as well - again still in planning stage.

Although I haven't decided what I am doing internally, I do wish to use some UV paint. I will definitely be considering something along those lines to add.

many thanks as I wasn't aware that material was available.

I already gave away all my UV reactive stuff to someone on these forums. It doesn't seem to popular anymore.

Anyone know where there is UV Paint tho? Kent building supplies?

There isnt much UV reactive gear unless you go online either - hence the paint.

I am thinking 2 x 12in Cathode tubes should be enough for the mid tower to light up something very simple(properly placed). Ski's mod would allow for much greater refraction so I may have to ask to see who's got just a little of a decent pattern to brighten things up.

Trying to keep it simple.

QFT

For the past few years I haven't seen nearly as many UV paints and items for sale as I used to see. Everyone seems to be going for a more toned down subtle look now so you're best bet would probably be people trying to sell their used stuff.

I have a load of UV cable sheathing from ABIT. All you need is a molex pin extractor and away you go.

The rolls were about 12" x 60" and went for about $9.00 or so. I still have some at home in varying types, along with chrome on black trim tape.

Guardian Stripez™ is another supplier and TrimBrite for some chrome pin stripes.

I gotta feeling finding quality uv paint is going to be a little difficult in the HRM.

I will also check a few hardware store(s) until i come up with something. Otherwise, may have to just do up the interior as a whole in a solid color and or incorporate some chrome if I can get some of that as well.

See what tomorrow and or Saturday brings.

Went searching for UV paint on Saturday. That idea went out the window. So I built the rig only minus a cpu and took my time with all the cable management. Its clean as a whistle given the room I had to work with. Then I got a pm from a forum member who has uv gear that they were willing to part with so I am going that route this Friday for pickup.

I will post a photo with what its like now, and another when I am done with the uv mods. Thanks to that forum member for such a great deal - I will be dropping by this Friday for the exchange.

I will have to redo all the wiring again but its going to be well worth it. photos to come.

The build minus a cpu. Notice the two UV lamps, one, lower front of the case, the other, just right of the motherboard.

Friday or saturday, I am picking up a bunch of gear and re-doing this.

More photos to come. If any of you have ideas throw them my way. There will be a see thru UV PSU, uv cabling and reflective chrome on the inside when done.
