I bought a new i7 system and it comes with 3 GB (3 Sticks) of DDR3 1066 RAM.

I have now purchased a 6 GB Corsair XMS3-1600 Kit (3 Sticks.)

My question is would it be better to run the memory combined (9GB) at 1066 or would it be better to run only the faster 6GB.

It is an i7 920.

Thanks!

im just going to go ahead and assume you've had a brain fart. stick with six gigs at 1600mhz. you never even really use all 6 fully. 9 gigs at 1066mhz might as well go back to ddr2 for that matter

And nobody would EVER need more than 640KB either...

More the merrier provided everything works right together.

Ok so two say 6gb ddr3 1600 and one for 9 gb ddr3 1066.

It doesnt matter if anyone needs 9gb but i already HAVE it im not buying it.

i would stick with 6 with faster speeds. more is not always merrier sometimes. in this case it'd be for example a situation where your friends come over but didn't bring any extra beer. and that would suck

Thanks alot Denty,
