What did they do exactly with the new patch?

My cousin plays & says they changed or reset all the skills & he hasn't got the same amount of mana or something that he had?

They pretty much changed everything. Can't really link you patch notes cuz of work filters. Looking up "4.0.1 class changes" should give ya whatever you need.

Of course you probably don't actually care, so just tell your cousin it's "working as intended".

Nah I looked it up for him. He was PISSED lol. Seems they changed the talent trees from 61 points to 31 points on main prof or something. pretty sucky imo.

No one should have been surprised at any of the changed aspects in 4.0.1, we've known about them for months. If he was truly surprised then he A)plays about 30 minutes a week and/or B)has never heard of the internet, or what a website is.

They often reset talent trees when making big changes to them as it would be unfair if you put points into one talent, and it was swapped for something else that you don't really want.

His points from leveling will be refunded though so he'll be able to spend them again as he wishes, and if those talents that increase mana still exist, than he can just put points into them again and be back to where he was.

He doesn't read sites period & plays Wow everyday. It's about all he has the motor skills to do since he had his stroke when he was young. His entire left side of his body is practically useless. So ya not everyone is fortunate in life to be healthy & smart like others. He was really looking forward to the new Cataclysm addition but now not so much.

Well, don't I feel like a jerk now. So much has changed that any explantion from someone who doesn't play WoW won't be enough.

Not that it matters, no one is happy and as far as patches go, it's a far sight buggier than others. Hopefully they fix the simple stuff (like nameplates) soonest.

The changes affect some classes more then others. The biggest changes are more so for tanks, hunters and paladins. If you know his class I can probably help out some more.
For his skills/talent tree it is in the same spot he just has to pick a primary spec to start and cannot put points into the other ones until he has 31 points in the primary one. Also with this is a "Learn" button at the bottom of the tree to save/learn it when he is happy with how his points are distributed.
He should visit his class trainer as well as some of the new abilities or spells are at the trainer for him to learn. The big one is his armor speciality which gives a bonus if he is wearing all of the highest armor type his class can wear.
If hes getting frustrated with the patch tell him to just take his time with it, it is a new learning experience and game for everyone once again.
The biggest issue that people are not understanding is that this patch is balanced around level 85 players, not level 80 players.

Talking about WoW, it always turns into a Godwin thread or just a bunch of BarrensChat(TM)

As a Hunter alot changed for him. He now has focus instead of mana which means if has any intellect on his gear its probably wasted now. He wants to be wearing all mail armor for the bonus he gets from that. He also should be working towards 2 piece Tier 10 armor and 4 piece later on. The Tier 10 set is now very strong for hunters and worth maintaining.
Haste now increases his focus regen rate in addition to his attack speed. He now only needs 246 hit rating to reach the hit cap vs old 279. If he is not at this point or above it he can now also reforge 40% of a secondary stat on his armor to a different stat not already present on that armor piece. (requires an item level of 200 minimum)
His pet choice now does bring some utility to a group/raid as all the pet families now have unique attack or buff or debuff, exotic pets have 2 of these. (including Bloodlust on core hound pets)
His talent trees are now pretty clear in what to get with usually only 1 or 2 'choice' talents to spend.
