Hey guys, I was thinking of going out and purchasing GTA:4 after playing it and having loads of fun at a friends house but only really want if it right now if I'm going to be able to properly play it. I want to play it on my monitors native res of 1900x1200 and my system is as follows:

E4400 - 3.3GHz
2GB Memory
3870x2

Think it will run well on this system or will one or more of these things hold me back? I'd have no problem buying some more RAM to play the game but really am not sure about spending money on a Quad core or a new GPU.

I think the DRM embedded in GTA IV will stop you from enjoying the game. As soon as I see "starforce" or "SecureROM" I run away, even if I didn't buy it.

As soon as I saw it on the EULA I sighed and unmounted.

Everything set to highest with no AA and draw distances hovering around 15 (which really is comparable to the 360 version)

I get about 35fps @ 1280x1024 and its definately playable. I think if you turn clip capture off it gives you even more.

My system:
X2 5000+ OC'ed to 2.8ghz
8800GT
2gb ram

I'm happy with its performance, especially after the patch.

By those screen shots i say it actually looks better on the 360,its those none aa edges(fugly)either the 360 has 2x aa enabled or they are useing some kind of edge blur-i think they use some kind of edge blur cause i run it at that same 1280x1024 res and it looks much better, just wish i could get into this game but i think its the worst of all the gta's

Yeah its a software algorythm that blurs those edges. I can run with AA but not THAT comfortably. But the PC version still suffers from poor textures and shadows, since alot of it was ported from 360.

But I definately think with your system you'll be able to run it comfortably.

So I said ok, I'll give it a go to get rid of the 'jaggies'

Turned everything as high as it could possibly go (just got the update with the new graphics options)

Since the game has no native AA I enabled it via NCP and honestly, i see no difference:

Stupid ports, and I don't care what Rock* say, it's still a port...

Well, I went out and purchased the game. Unfortunatly, it won't even let me turn it up to my monitors resolution to 1920x1200... it instantly clicks back to 1680x1050, which is rediculous... I've never played a game that thought it could figure out what settings it should use better than you can. Lame.

Also, this game and WoW together completely fill my 37GB Raptor so I guess I will be stopping by MB today to pick up another 2GB of ram and a bigger HD. I have 500mb free so I guess the day has finally come to upgrade to a bigger HD.

CMDR Steve-O you are completely right, this game has so much bullshit associated with it I almost wanted to call Rockstar just to bitch at them to save me from breaking my keyboard in half...

Oh well, it's an amazing game but what a frustration... screw Rockstar.

I didn't hear any issues of resolutions defaulting. Did you try applying the latest patch? There were alot of changes made to the graphics panel in options.

Yeah Tom, the EULA was pretty brash heh.
