Only a couple more days...

I wonder how badly previous sales records will be destroyed by a game people have been waiting for for over a decade.

IDK dude, I've met maybe 3 people locally who have EVER played SC. Yet every person who games knows about and plays games like COD, BF or WoW.

But then again, there's the Koreans........

I wonder if the folks from Daewoo will be getting this one or is that just a racist stereotype? No offense intended...

Seems the Stupid Store here in NG is doing a midnight release thingy, with a grand total of 6 CE copies available. A co-workers son want's to be there to get a copy, even though he has the regualr version pre-ordered.

I'll pick it up when I get back to Quebec, since I'm driving for the majority of Tuesday.

Any idea if it can be installed/played with no internet connection whatsoever?

I'll be trying this before buying it, for sure. Of course I can't even play it till I get back home at the end of August.

From what I hear, you cannot play SP or MP without a connection to BattleNet.

Once you activate your key I believe you can set it to an 'offline' mode for SP only. (no skirmish iirc) You then need to switch back online before you can do any MP.

Anyone have any insider tips on getting a CE in Dartmouth/Halifax thats NOT a midnight release?

Nevermind, walked into the Dartmouth Crossing Wal-Mart @ 7am and walked out with 2 copies of the Collector's Edition (one being for a friend stuck up north currently). Only one other person there was ahead of me and he just got the regular edition. And a guy after me bought a CE as well.
Thats 3 of 6 CEs gone before 705am. Last night the electronics manager informed me that as far as he knew each Walmart was only getting 6 CEs and 90 regular editions for release day.

Time to rush through work and get home to start an install!

Same here, they are not putting them out on the shelves here today. They were bringing out the boxes of them when I got in and the were leaving them behind one of the electronics cash registers for the day with a employee selling them alone today. Control of the release abit better I guess, must have learned from the last WoW expansion release. The electronic managers said that was abit out of control with people in the store lined-up 2 hrs before midnight (was open 24hrs at that time) and it was almost a mob rush to grab copies off of the shelves.

Did you play the first Starcraft? It was good/big enough to become a national sport in Korea  .
SC2 builds on the gameplay SC1 setup. Basically its prettier and now with 3D graphics but the campaign (only the Terran one in this one, other 2 race campaigns are expansions coming) is said to be atleast the size of the combined campaigns of all 3 races from SC1 and its expansion.
In beta, the multiplayer ladder ranking work really well, basically you play so many placement matches and you are placed into a specific league with those of similar skill. (Apparently not only based on W/L ratio but build order, # of units, # of resources collected etc.) To start you can do off ladder games as well and you can do practice matches prior to going to ladder play, but this was in the last beta limited to 50 practice games.
A big bonus with SC2 is the Galaxy Editor which so far has seen user created proof of concept alpha builds of custom missions/campaigns as well as potentially being able to create these mission/campaigns in 3rd person perspective with a potential for 1st person ones.

I'll post more on the campaign once its installed and running tonight!
