Is it just me or does TF2 take forever to load? Just wondering if anyone else finds this. I consider my machine to be pretty decent and yet it seems like forever from when I decide to play TF2 to when I'm actually playing. By forever I'd say maybe 1 to 1.5 minutes.

Sorry, I know I'm being picky here, but I don't think it needs to take that long to load. I constantly defrag the drive (no not windows defragger). Just wondering if anyone knows some ways for me to speed this loading time up? Maybe its just poorly written. The darn menu takes way longer than I would expect it to load given that well.. its just a menu.

Its sad that I can't remember exactly what I am running at home - I used to be much more on the ball, but here it is:

Intel E6750
Vista Home Premium
2GB DDR2 800mhz
8800GT 512mb
250GB SATA with 8megs cache (could be 16 actually)
160GB SATA older HD

Nope its on its own partition of the new (and faster drive). There really is nothing else on this partition. Vista is on the primary partition of that drive.

I'm jealous of your "few seconds" load time. FWIW, CSS loads fairly quickly.

Heh.. yeah well I would blame vista if CSS wasn't ok.

Oh and I have yet to try the "defragment game cache" yet. I figured the defragger would take care of that for me.

So I did what is detailed at this link:

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/s ... ostcount=6

I was out last night so I didn't really get to try it, but a quick trial this morning showed a MASSIVE improvement in loading time. Even CSS loads faster now. I'm running a disk defrag now.. watch there be an update today and I'll have to do it again.. Although from what I understand, it doesn't take long if they aren't that fragmented.
