I like where this is going!

Nothing surprises me. Police cant do it the old fashioned way to they wanna snoop. I dont think they will bother the average joe unless you are suspected of doing something. But still...invasion of privacy nonetheless.

I wouldn't be surprised but hopefully at this point they still need the courts to approve a warrant for it first. Van Loan seems to think this process of obtaining one is too cumbersome and slow for police but processes like that are what keep the powers in check.

This will probably get shot down pretty easily, as anyone supporting this in the gov looks likes a total arsewipe. They keep on trying to use "Organized Crime" and "Peodophiles" (sp?) as excuses, but most smart people see through this thin veil as yet another step towards a police state.

As well, most of the people (the smart and dangerous ones, at least) in those 2 aformentioned brackets are using the proper means to elude such simplistic measures of snoopage.

I'm almost thinking they keep on introducing these bills just so the oppositions can feel good about shooting down said bills.

*Edit to correct my facts and add a link*

A somewhat similar bill was passed in Germany and within 2 hours of it passing it seems the party that introduced it wanted it broadened to include "Killer" Games like Counter Strike.

Makes you wonder what they are up to or can do if they wanted - seeing as they are so very paranoid of everyone else. :?

Who polices the police... Really a judge should need to sign off on a warrant, especially given the current track record of canada's, um, er finest... The local yokels haven't done much better either, although I think all of their victims are still alive. More scare tactics at work. Wonder how they'll paint the next DCMA North bill...

I'm worried about that as well. Some countries in Europe have learned from the DMCA and have actually taken measures to go in the opposite direction of it but Canada seems to keep pushing for a carbon copy of it every year or so. It feels like it's just a matter of time before 85% of our population is criminals and we can be sued for millions on the dollars that are "stolen".

I am guessing they wouldnt bother to snoop on you unless you are suspected ( and they have proof of ) a slime crime of some sort.

Well that's what they should do but whether or not they do/would is another story.

well..they will most likely tread lightly on this very touchy subject. If they do decide to move forward all they need do is screw up once and you will have alot of pissed off people to contend with regarding this 'legal snooping'

Personally I hope they screw up and get sued. lol

I also didnt agree to have my personal information available to anyone when I signed up for internet.

guess I should re-read the fine print.

It's basically their way of saying 'Big Brother is watching you'.
