That really sucks. I was working on it for quite awhile last night and there was no way I can get it to function together. I'm not a huge fan of G SKill ram lol

I have never seen memory so finicky over the timings. You have to set virtually every timing setting perfectly to get it stable - and forget about running a 2 gig kit with a 4 gig kit. Timings differ slightly so you absolutely cannot make both happy at the same time.

I am glad that I am going AM3 in a few months. I will be sure to get a proven matched board, cpu and ram to help aleviate some of the advil eating lol

Corsair has me won over in the Ram market. Never have I owned such snappy, low temp, and easily overclockable ram as I do here (XMS2 PC-8500). I get 1070mhz solid never dips timings currently at stock. :)

well I am going to have to stick with 4 gigs - keeping in mind this current board doesnt allow tuning of each bank like some boards do. If that were the case, I would be tuning both sets of ram on each bank and not having issues - as i would be able to set each bank for whatever timing I want and in detail. Something for next mobo ;)

Crucial won me over as Its so very easy to run, runs error free and gives you exactly whats advertized. I dont overclock the memory or up volts and still able to get excellent performance as they say you will , from stock. simply set the advertized volts and timings and leave everything else to auto if you want and presto.

I haven't tried Corsair, perhaps I will with the next build - which will be a well thought out AM3 socket build quad core. As stated I will make sure every component is proven to work with one another without issue.

I am dissapointed in Gskill that is THAT finicky over every single setting to the letter. If its not set just perfect - good luck in booting. Perhaps its the ram and this chipset. I couldnt be arsed to look it up to be sure but rest assured, lesson learned here. I had to go much deeper into many settings to get it to be stable enough to get to windows.

the AM3 socket is a waste at this point untill they start making the next batch of Phenom's DDR3 only. DDR3 is pointless right now.

If you buy AM3 right now and put your 940 in with DDR3,you won't see any gain trust me. And you could still have these types of issues with DDR3 based bords as there still the sam 790 northbridge.

Agreed - its why I said in a few months time. More or less waiting for it to improve.

Steve-o if u are around, what did u do to get around the 8 gig ram issue with G skill?

I have the opertunity to go 8 gig but i remember you mentioned something about all 4 slots being filled and it not working - which is why I am guessing you did 2 x 4gig sticks.

I would like to go 8 gig of G skill but obviously not if 4 x 2gig sticks doesnt fly on the M3A32-MVP 790FX

well after a few days wait, Gskill support has been e mailing me back and fourth. I have here three kits of GSkill and I am only able to get a single 4gig kit running.

Gskill suggested I contact AMD to make sure this revision of cpu is able to handle 4 sticks - and not just Gskill, any ram would probably pose an issue.

I dont think I am going to bother contact AMD, I am pretty sure at this point they will only confirm that fact, ( I am impressed with the level of knowledge of the GSkill support team) so 4GB for now will do. For anyone that wishes to run 8GB, you will have to get two 4gb sticks.

So I guess thats one up for the intel fanboi's out there lol

On a side note, apparently, I can run 4 sticks, just not @1066. They would do 800Mhz with nice 4-4-4-12 timing.
