Interesting how the "heat pipes" on the GTX arn't actually getting hot.

Even more pics, some of them are pretty scary!

I wonder if heat pipes are fairly well insulated in heatsinks. They are really just transferring the heat internally with the fluid/gas phase change from one area to another so if they are "colder" than the rest of the heatsink it doesn't necessarily mean they aren't working but it is a bit weird.

I do believe I've singed my fingers on heatpipes before.

All one would need is some fresh Doh and one could bake bread in there. Maybe even make some special brownies or muffins.

It appears the heatpipes are about 55C when the rest of the GTX is over 90C. Every part will "singe" your fingers, but if you had to pick it up, I guess starting there would best choice, or using ovgloves.

And here comes the science...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_pipe
"Heat pipes employ evaporative cooling to transfer thermal energy from one point to another by the evaporation and condensation of a working fluid or coolant. Heat pipes rely on a temperature difference between the ends of the pipe, and cannot lower temperatures at either end beyond the ambient temperature (hence they tend to equalise the temperature within the pipe)."

So the temp of the heat pipe, should be about halfway between the heat of the video card and the ambient temp of the case. No wonder Fermi needs them. Like a Sterling Engine.

Apparently there are only 8,000 total GTX 480 and 470 units combined for the entire world in this first launch run. If MB gets one of either, eventually, I'll be impressed.

Once again, I R saddened by this latest development. This won't make it much cheaper if I want to buy one of them 4GB 5970 cards next Xmas, heh.

Apparently it was in stock (anyone read Dutch heh), for the low low price of 550 Euros (+VAT i'm sure). That's well over 900 buckaroos!

That price appears to include the NL taxes.

It is the 12th, there should be a couple available today

PNY model listed as "In Stock" at a certian Cdn e-tailer, but when you go to check on the quantities you get a message saying "Real Time stock is not available on this item"

Ok, well then it's a much more reasonable 759$...MB should see if they can actaully get a 470 or 480, for the giggles if anything. Saw One 480 online in-stock for 540$ CDN.

And for some silly reason the price for a 5870 here has jumped to $483+tax. Anyone wanna buy mine for $450 so I can buy the 5970?

These are the first pictures of GTX480 quad SLI doing something (that I have come across).
Apparently the drivers arn't "up to snuff" yet, hence no benchmarks. I really would like to see an infra-red image of that setup as-is... No, I'm not making any more nuclear bomb or surface-of-the-sun cliche references, unless requested.
