Used video cards drop in price faster than cars heh. My brother is gonna get most of my old system next year so I can do the upgrade switcharoo game.

Apparently one can get the nifty new MLAA on 5000 series cards (free 4X post-processing AA basically).

Download the driver, extract but do not install.
http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/GPU84AMDCatalyst1010aHotfix.aspx

And download this file:
http://www.forum-3dcenter.org/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=8343445&postcount=18

Go to directory(where you extracted)
\Catalyst_8.782.1RC5_Win7_MLAA_Oct21\Pac kages\Drivers\Display\W7_INF\ and open CW106976.inf
Now select with Ctrl+A and copy the modded txt file lines into the original inf file.
Do the same with C7106976.inf in
\Catalyst_8.782.1RC5_Win7_MLAA_Oct21\Packages\Driv ers\Display\W76A_INF\

Now start the setup and the function should be unlocked in CCC.

I'll let y'all know if it works:

It's an option!

Left is with checkbox off, right is with checkbox on. Nothing else is changed.

The text seems to be a little harder to read. MLAA is on the left.

Doesn't work with: Dirt 2.
Apparently works with: Mass Effect 2, GTA IV

Also, below "Catalyst AI" there is an option called "Enable Surface Format Optimization"
Dirt 2 benchmark mode:
Catalyst AI "High Quality"
(average/minimum)
ON->24.3/18.9 OFF->23.9/19.8
Catalyst AI "Quality"
ON->23.7/19.4 OFF->23.3/19.4
Catalyst AI "Performance"
ON->23.1/19.8 OFF->23.9/19.0

So SFO doesn't seem to do much at all, at least in Dirt 2.

Looks like the effect of ye olde Alternate Pixel Center that they got rid off many a moon ago. If you used AA in games like BF1942 the text would be unreadable, but enabling APC would fix it.

MLAA is post-processing AA, it's what consoles use to do cheap and dirty AA.

We'll see if AMD adds it to the next driver release 10.11's.

I tried it. But I loose Frame Rate. On iRacing I lost 8 fps. Compared to Normal Anti-Aliasing all the way up.

The 6 series performance wise seems to be a carry over to the next series. Something to put out there cheap to keep people from buying Nvidia cards.

the 5850 I have right now beats out a 6870 easily so I think I will be holding on to this one until a real upgrade path is released.

The price performance of the 6850/70 is of A1 quality. They were never meant to set the gaming world on fire performance wise. We'll see come November.

yes I am hoping to see some 2 and 4 gig offering from ATI. Not looking forward to the $$ they will ask for one tho.

From the benches I seen my 5850 is ~3fps slower than a 6870 in most games so not much of an upgrade path there.

The price point is quite excellent and I was very surprised by it so I gotta agree with ya on that one Steve-o

Apparently it's a bit tricky to get good screenies when yer trying out MLAA (no one uses printscreen?), but apparently there is a program called "AMD MLAA TOOL", which violated some NDA somewhere so it cannot be found. I can't really tell what it does but it's a non-event.

Good thing MB doesn't sign silly NDA's...or maybe they do and can't tell us cuz the NDA said they couldn't!
