Picked up a 4870 from MB tody to see if there was a improvement.

In 3d mark I almost reached 500 pts higher than the 8800.

The driver install is a little sketchy but that may be human error. I'm mentioning it just for the fact I stumbled upon it.

Thats the news so far. .. Ill be trying a few more games tongiht to calc the diffy's and avg's.

If you have a 8800 and are thinking of a 4870 ATM. I would suggest no so far. But the testing continues...

Quit yer moaning :P , just override the fan speed. Early BIOS's seem to have crappy fan settings.

71C at idle actually.

World of warcraft the framerate is 2 fps less avg.

Grid I can't tell now it seems better with 4x AA but i think i had 16qqASaff or soething wit hthe 8800GTS..

464 point 3d mark increase from 8800 gts oc.

Frames in Grid @ same settings @ 1900x12 seem about the same. WOW is the same, Crysis is about a 3fps improvement.

Great card! I like it alot. It runs very hot (71C idle).

Great alternative and not a bad buy.

Would wait for the X2 of it! :D

i know with my 4850 i had to modify the .xml profile to set my fan speed up. idle temps were 80c idle, and 81c load, now its running at around 48-50 idle and not sure about load. mind you i have the fan set @ 48& so its barely noticable...
