I recently bought MB's last Intel E8400, and installed it last night (Using a Pentium 4 before). The big problem I'm having is that whenever I try to run a game, Prototype for example, the system will lock up and reboot after a few minutes of gameplay. My brother tells me that the problem lies within the RAM frequency (667MHz). I'm using a 1GB and 2GB stick.
If anybody can shed a little light on my problem, it would be greatly appreciated.

May have to set timing in the bios. Check your branding of ram and refer to the installation instructions.

If it is not that you could have a bad stick. Take a stick out and run the game. If it's fine try the other.

Just tried out it's lowest setting at 667MHz. Lasted a good deal longer, but still crapped out. I'll try removing a stick.

did you just adjust the mhz speed or the actual timings as well?

ie: 5-5-5-15

I'm just guessing a bad stick. Hopefully it's the 1gb. GL.

PS. I'm getting rusty now. Only own a HP laptop since i'm moving by Flama on here.

Running 3G in single channel probably isn't a good thing. Although if it was running fine before the E8400, it's probably a BIOS issue, are you getting a IRQ not less than equal BSOD?

Well, I tried removing the 1GB stick in hopes it WAS the faulty one, but, alas, my hope was dashed. As soon as I logged on, it booted me off and restarted. I removed it and reinstalled the 1GB, and now it's running flawlessly.
All things considered, this is just an excuse to buy a new kit (god willing, of course). Thanks for your guys's help :P

Turn the old stick into a keychain.

Good to hear the problem is resolved.

Good luck with your future ram!

well good to see it's going fine, but yeah id grab some new ram, and make sure you got the latest bios update for your board. also clear the cmos and reset timings if you're still using that ram for now.

Yeah, time to upgrade. Come on, you got an E8400 (sweet cpu) there, you might as well give it lots of good quality ram to allocate.

I just bought a 4GB kit of Corsair XMS2 1066mhz PC2-8500 for about $60 from another online store. So yeah, it's getting crazy cheap nowadays.

What are you running for a graphics card? There is a minor relationship between your system and video ram.

After I make a bit of money I'll see if MB can order me in a fresh set of OCZ Reaper HPC :P
And, I'm currently running an HD4890 from Sapphire at 950 GPUs/1100 core memory. Never caused a problem with the P4 I was using before.

Alright, I just installed a new kit of that 4GB OCZ HPC stuff, and it's great. A small problem that has occurred is that it cannot run on it's standard 1066MHz. I've lowered it to 800~ or so, but I was wondering what could be restricting the potential speed of these sticks? I've double-checked the frequency and voltage settings.

You need to enable 1066 mode in your BIOS (533mhz).

It's in there with your timing information.

I've already tried setting it to 1066, and basically every other setting, but it only seems to work with 800 or slightly above. After a few minutes of running time, it'll reboot.
I'll try the BIOS update and see where that takes us.

I use this as a software memory test tool. Can be run via livecd.
