I tried connecting my laptop directly to the cable modem and got 30mb/s to Truro, but my average for US servers is still <10mb/s. European servers ~<5mb/s. I got the new modem today, just hooked it up and ran some speed tests here: http://www.speedtest.net/ I've tried about 10 different servers in North America and my average dl speed is only about 7mb/s. average ping is ~ 35ms I'm using a trendnet router ->netgear switch ->laptop (all wired) How fast ...

thanks - read the other thread and will be upgrading.
now i just have to decide if i want to keep their tv service (i'm on a 3 month free trial)

Thinking about spending $10 more/month to get faster speeds from eastlink. Does anyone have this already - is the speed difference noticeable?

Would using a wifi router (802.11g) be a bottleneck?

4 MB/sec download would be nice in theory, but with eastlink is it reality?
