To answer your questiong yes. But...the fan itself and heatsink is noticably smaller and has a different design. Id snap a photo but it looks time to recharge the sony battery.

Make us an approximate sketch using MSPaint.

Might as well take a side by side pic with that 945 cooler.

I plan on that Steve-0 in just a few mins when the battery gets enuff charge.

On a second note, I placed the board in the 690 case to test the 965 with it to see if the bios revision was an old one. Looks like I am good to go. So, parts everywhere in front of and on my desk. I am going to start the chainsaw up and chop and rebuild here in about 20 mins lol

I will post photos of the progress.

940BE HSF on the left 965BE HSF on the right. look closely,I even'd them up on the bottom but the top don't line up. Also the physical heat sink itself is noticably smaller. Sorry about the burries !

So - I pulled the current board out, and on the Anti static bag I removed the V8, replaced the back plate and bracket and installed the original - along with the stock HSF. Then, reinstalled the NB cooler and (finally) installed the memory heatpipes.

Nice thing about that is that if you OC your memory it pulls the heat right off the ram. Its ajustable too all ya gotta do is slide up or down the lil "asus" labeled square left or right on the heat pipes for a nice fit !

File comment: Took a lil break as it took awhile to get the board out, changing out brackets for the V8 , reassembling etc. Coffee and an egg(s)?! that musta came from Chernobyl. 2 yolks in one egg WTF!

File comment: Finally the finished product. Much neater wiring, front and back. Clean and cool as a whistle too. Sitting now at 26 degrees.

MUCH cooler than the old board and cpu. Very impressed its running this cool on air. Should allow for some OC headroom one would hope.

Only thing I did so far was install all the drivers ( oh theres alot to install ) Next I have to redo the router, and get to oc'ing this rig. Setup one touch OC and all that jazz. But for now its online. I will get to the rest of the setup a lil later.

woo-hoo!
