I set the fans to use case air. Meaning both fans are exausting out the back with the 120mm on the door feeding it filtered dust free air from the side panel. Keeping in mind I can "pull" more thru as the rear case fan has an external three position switch - Low, med and hi.

That was the best way I figured to do it. Temps are the same as with using the V8 under idle load. I will stress it later to get load temps - where I am guessing liquid should surpass by a few degrees.

Later on - attach the V8 to the 2nd puter.

If you still have your side fan in the same position you do realize its exhausting air not in taking air right

I installed the sidefan myself - its in the proper position to pull air in past the dust filter.

I was only going by the pic you have up of the side panel showing the fan on it unless you have flipped it since that pic.

good point - I was testing to see if a fan would fit with the rad , extra fan and tubing there pretty close to side panel mount. The fan was since removed, cable sleeved and mounted properly. Good eyes Dean!

Pretty close. The mount for the side panel fan is a little lower and positioned a little different - which is why I tested it first.

It partially feeds the rad fan so its good ( and dust free ) The hoses do rest on the edge of the side panel fan but do not hit the fan blades at all.

I expected this cooler to surpass the v8 by a few degrees but it doesn't. I have yet to test load temps but for now the V8 does a better job with idle temps. I will wait a few days for the compound to set. If it doesn't drop by a degree or two then I will remove it and use a different thermal compound.

I am hoping load temps is where this will shine some. Tests to come later tonight.

If all goes well - going the way of a 5850 from MB this Friday !

Then a lil while down the road ( unless I do decide to sell a kidney sooner ) a 2nd for x-fire.

I picked up the 2nd only a short time after I got the first one from ya Steve-o.

I am thinking a single 5850 would whip 4870's in xfire. Then I can pick up another later.

Seeing as the temps were several degrees higher than I thought they should be - I removed the heatsink/pump. Corsair put way too much thermal compound on that thing. I cleaned it, reapplied some coolermaster stuff I had that came with the V8. 4 degrees cooler right off the bat.

worth doing. Steve-o you may wanna redo the thermal compound if you hadn't when you installed yours. 1/2 grain of rice sized and presto.

not surprising, the TIM they pre apply is of good quality, just often too much.

I always use the small size blob method as well, i think my best results are with it.
