Oh what a crappy card.

This thing has a Zalman cooler on it, and it's freaking louder than the 4870X2 was. I've got to wonder how loud those 4770's are with a similar cooler on them.

i have 2 4770's in one of my rigs and there actually not that loud even on 100%, i found the stock 8800gt coolers worse then these when running full tilt.

This isn't a 'stock' cooler, it's one of the Zalman ones gigabyte likes to use, maybe the bearings in it went from running it in BTX configuration for months on end.

It's good to hear the 4770's are fairly quiet, now I just need the cash from my 4870X2 sale and I need to decide on how many cards to buy, most of the old games I play don't even support CF, yet new ones would struggle at 1920x1200 with only one card...

the system i have the 2 4770's in is my HTPC, and there actually much faster (combined) then my 4890 in my workstation and they cost about $140($99 each) less to boot. also you can hit about 900-1000mhz on the core, so if ya wanna go a less expensive route while waiting on the dx11 cards to drop they get my recommendation.

The good Doctor wants to use as little power as possible (and less heat) and still wants to have a decent gaming experience, while not doling out the dosh.

AFAIK only the 4770 can fill that void.

Those DX11 (from what i've read it's like DX10.2 or so) cards are going to be sweet! Might just make me want to get Windows 7 heh.

The 4770 is MUCH quieter than that 9800GT was.

So doc you find that your 4870X2 is using up too much juice for what you need it for?

He already got rid of it and (I'm guessing) he got the 4770 since he is singing high priases of it (which is duly deserved IMO).

I offered to trade up my 4870 for his X2. Would have used too much power (and thusly created too much heat) for him.

Don't blame him, as my place gets rediculously hot in the summer as well. It's bad enough that the monitors spew out heat and the freaking Eastlink cable box uses like 35W of power even if it's turned off (which is why I unplug it, a lot).

Just buy a AC unit. they are pretty cheap and definitely worth the comfort IMO

I was pushing 300W at the desktop with the 4870X2, I'm down to 195W with the 4770 (That's including my 24" LCD) The 4770 is more than adequate for games from 8 years ago.

I've liked what I've seen with the 4770's as well and it looks like things will still be good for the budget gamer in the fall with the 4850's dropping to a similar price:

if you take some time and overclock the card, it can keep up with a 4870, atleast my 2 do at 980core/4100mem and that on the stock cooler lol. 4890 was a waste had i known about these before hand i would have bought the same setup for my desktop.

Now I want another one... These things should have single slot cooling, then I'd want 2 more  (or maybe they should just be available)
