Well it never saw the light of day.

Turns out, with a $100 kit, you can turn your run of the mill laptop into a high end gaming laptop.

I think this is just freaking awesome and would love to see someone from mb tackle this project and post results.

This is about 10x as complicated as it should be, but it's just making it up as you go along haha.

Yeah. I don't know why it took so long to make a good solution to the problem of upgrading laptop graphics.

^^ This is why I posted it here lol someone here should have the money/balls/laptop with expresscard to give it a shot. I'm currently laptop-less or I would have ordered it right on the spot.

i dont see this as a great solution. I do like the fact that things are being tried in the effort to sorta idea.

someone wake me up when they figure a easier better solution.

If I were to game on a laptop I'd want a separate keyboard, mouse, and now video card, with PSU to power it, so really how's it any worse than having a desktop computer? I think this is a neat idea and interesting to see that it's done but I don't get why anyone would do this over having a desktop system unless they couldn't afford both, and/or were a bit clueless thinking this would be a better solution.

If it could be condensed into a smaller package, and battery powered, then it'd be a good solution. I've had a few laptops over the years that I couldn't game on, and would have spent hundreds to upgrade them to be able to play games but the option was never there. I was excited about the X-Station but it never made it to market.

it could be made into a single plug type thing with an adapter thrown on the laptop power brick. however, no manufacturer would be able to predict what kinds of video cards would be thrown at those laptops going into the future, and to attempt that would mean that every laptop would come with a power brick bigger than the laptop itself.

many high end laptops come with replacable graphics cards. the only problem there is that the graphics cards by themselves cost more than a new laptop featuring those same cards. :?
