Normally I would scoff at the idea that software can fry hardware but Vista's Aero UI is always in 3D mode and maybe it caused the card to die prematurely. The fact that it made that high pitched squeal though sounds like there was a problem with the power circutry (usually located near where the molex connector attaches to the card itself) to begin with though and that proably would have happened eventually anyways. You might not want to rule out your old PSU as the culprit either because it might have been doing a terrible job of supplying the card with power (too much maybe?) so I'd be weary about using it again. The Enermax Liberty you replaced it with should be good though so I assume if it was your "backup" PSU then your main one must have been even more reliable. |

yeah my blame is to vista!!! the hell with vista this settles it. PHUCK VISTA yeah the weard part is the power supply i was usein gwas a 750w cheeeep power supply. i thought more watts was better . i was gonna keep my 750 watt and sell one off my enermax libertys. |

I definetly prefer quality over Watts with a Power Supply. As long as it has enough power to run what you want why have all those extra Watts? Not to mention a lot of the cheapies inflate their numbers by adding up their max wattage per rail, and not their rated RMS power, so you're getting a theoretical number that it will never truely be able to hit. I would definitey prefer that 500W Enermax Liberty over a cheap 750W anyways... it's just a shame you had to fry a card before finding that out eh? As a side note, I saw an article (on Slashdot probably) a few weeks ago of a third party company that investigated Windows Vista crashes and errors to determine where the problem could be traced back to. They had it in this pie chart and only like 17% of the crashes were beause of Vista itself. 20% (and the leading cause of crashes) were due to early nVidia drivers that weren't as "Vista Ready" as they should have been. The article even stated that nVidia may be the main reason Vista took so much heat in the first few months because of instability. Other minor causes included AMD and Intel chips (I guess they aren't perfect eh?) and legacy software, whch made up another sizeable chunk. |

Uh, I'd bet money that it was simply faulty PCB circuitry, especially for something like that to happen. |

Why were you buying a 9600gt if you had an 8800gt? the 8800gt is a much faster card. |

I had a 9600gt with my e6420 @ 4ghz I could only score 12.9k . With my 8800gt I scored 14k @ 4ghz . |

Another vote for the 8800GT being faster... and that's coming from a 9600GT owner. |

weard i red the total opposite. the 8800 series beats the 9600 in certin areas. but for the most part in games it gets a stedyer fps in games. i notice even on certin runs on 3d mark 06 im gettin better fps then i was with 2 8800gts 320mb is sli. BUT i also have a quad core processor now. but i know my procesor wont give me that much of a higher score. im happy with what i have for a machine now. finally does all i need and want it to do without a hitch. sofar. only thing left to do now is get some better ram and get rid of this crappy acer main board.. lol |

I think the 320MB 8800GTS cards were slower than the 8800GT's but the newer G92 8800GTS's are faster than both which makes it confusing for consumers. If you are comparing the 9600GT to an older 8800GTS then it could be faster but compared to the other two 8800 series cards it should be slower. |
