http://www.msi.com/product/mb/890FXA-GD70.html#/?div=Overview Anyone have or know anyone who has used this motherboard? It's basically the only model that suits my needs with config of the PCI/PCIe slots. And even then it's not quite perfect (if I ever go crossfire). I got the upgrade bug, and with the failue of the 6990 (pricewise) I just gotta get something. 990FX is taking too damn long (at least June).

I specifically asked MB if they could get this board as it wasn't on their advertised list of products. And they ordered one for me, good times! |

I was looking over the specs and features of that board. It should be an overclockers dream. Nice choice there Steve-O ! |

So why this board and not a gigabyte UD7? |

deandulong wrote: So why this board and not a gigabyte UD7? Good question! The site i was mainly searching for available boards doesn't have them in stock so they wouldn't show up in a search unless I actually typed in the name to begin with (which I didn't know existed). I didn't even realize an ATX XL form-factor motherboard for AMD existed! It has things I really don't need, like the ability to watercool the NB, a floppy connector, 10 SATA ports, an iPad charger and quad-crossfire. For 50$ more, it doesn't really offer me anything over the GD70. If I was an overclocking/folding/benchmarketing fiend I suppose I could have gone for this board. Oh and it WILL fit in my case, but the last PCIe slot is unusable:

Another note, the UD5 doesn't have what I consider to be an optimal setup for PCIex16 slots for crossfire. So my (flawed) logical conclusion even if the UD7 had shown up in my search is that it would have had the same configuration. |

On a non totally unrelated note... What are the chances of a 970 processor working on my crummy M3A (which has a 945 on it, which isn't supported) motherboard if I don't have to buy a new motherboard when I can get a Bulldozerish CPU (which i dunno if it will or not anyways)? |
